Scientific Debates on other Forums that make you proud
Sure, around here we daily bring up scientific points that usually end up wailing on some iverly religious person with Bad Science. But how often does it happen elsewhere? And, with any real quality.
Right now, for the first time I can remember, the usually quiet "child Friendly" forums of +www.Sluggy.net/forum are having an hounest goodnews "Science v Religion" debate in their POOP section ((thats Poltical Opinions and Opinontaed Posts))
I am very proud of some of the Doctors and Physists we have over there, and that so far the only really 'out there' religious guy got owned on page 2 and hasn't been back since.
For me It's Something Beautiful

Once, I taught a fundamentalist about evolution. That was fun. EDIT: It was an email exchange which grew out of PMs, so I can't really post a link to it.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

There was an aussie debate forum I used to frequent back in 2004, I owned like 5 creationists at once, and two of them decided they'd just ignore my posts in future, as they had no arguments if I didn't accept it on their terms.
One of the posts from that thread got into fstdt:

I posted my drag pics there and never corrected their misconceptions, it's interesting how slightly different people treat you. I got more PMs, that's for damn sure. One was from a boy that said I should come and trounce all the people flinging about sexist garbage in a thread, because I was "the perfect example" of a smart woman. Which is sort of funny and a shame."Now according to you lot, the most complex thing in the known universe... found its own way here by chance processes... The only reason my backside is not on top of my head is because when those unfortunate mutant ancestors of mine which did have their backsides on top of their head had bowel movement, the 'waste' ended up in their eyes, rendering failure of sight, they could no longer outrun predators, and were thus eaten (assuming their eyes were in the same 'perfect' location they are now, and not in a more beneficial location specifically for rectum on top of head mutant ancestors such as attached to the end of their fingers - which would of course cause more problems... and even though they would have been covered in waste(though this does raise another interesting point, that perhaps this made the prey unattractive to the predator, or, perhaps some mechanism such as a waste in eye extraction mechanism to extract the impediment could have evolved(not been designed of course)), this could have been us today). Hence the reason why their genetic information was not passed on, the (millions) of mutations required to get the waste system on top of the head was deleterious(for obvious reasons), and they became exstinct (thank ... was going to say God here - sorry) . Of course, there are no fossills of these mutants, nor can the above be emperically verified, but this is the nature of evolution from simpler organisms to higher - none of it can be emperically verified, oh, but this impossibility is logical so it is said."

AV, that was one of the funniest things I've ever read.
Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things... their number is negligible and they are stupid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Perhaps for you, but I was the posterboy, and I had no end of AIM conversations with people from the boards, both supportive and derisive. I had at least eight people tell me that I helped them straighten out what they believed, whether it was a full deconversion or going from fundie to moderate Christian.Exonerate wrote:Are you kidding?
