Mr. Wong.
Do you ever get the urge to seek out other Forums specifically Creation vs Evolution debates and join in for fun to destroy fundies/ pro-creationists arguments??
The only reason why I ask this because of I find your Hate Mail on your site very entertaining and at the same time very informative. I would love to read a point to point forum discussion with you and a avid pro-creationists.
This question can also go for anyone on this forum.
Does anyone seek out other forums and look for ID vs. evolution debates.???

Arguing with fundies, especially on there own forum, is a pointless and futile waste of time, so no I don’t do it. In fact the idea activity repels me, we don’t like and wouldn’t want an invasion here and I’m not going to go out and do the same thing.

Simply put, arguing with a creationist in his home turf is stupid. Not only do you not have a chance of convincing him in the first place, but he has the admins on his side, who can and will fuck you over. Make no mistake, they will do nothing short of deleting/altering your posts, changing/ignoring the rules, one-siding the competition, and outright banning you in order to humiliate you and make you look like a jackass.
Pointless.
Pointless.
Brains!

The reasons stated above hold true. After countless quests to other boards, I've found not a single one will let you win or even back you. They are, without doubt, the most totalitarian types of boards you can find on the web and that is why we sit here, sniping at their pathetic arguments against science and commonsense from the fortress that is SDN.

I concur with the previous posts. I used to go out and try to fight the good fight, but I don't really anymore. There's one board I still post on, but it's pretty slow anyway.
I might still be able to get excited enough to go out and start some stuff in "neutral territory", though. That is to say, a board that is not a staunchly fundamentalist or pro-moron site.

I posted for quite some time on eteamrevolution.net forums as 'ravingatheist'. Originally I didn't plan to stay long and just post a few comments, but the conversations were productive so I stuck around for a while. They recently started deleting and altering my post so I split immediately. I wouldn't say it was a complete waste of time because my arguments actually deconverted someone and I still talk to the person by email.
But, I would say that I think it's better to engage fundies in conversation on neutral boards instead of going into their home turf.

I agree with the above posters, it's pointless, utterly utterly pointless. The same arguments go around again and again and it's super-rare that anyone actually learns something. The best you can hope for is mocking them for being so horribly stupid.

I haven't been there in a while, but while I was there, they were quite reasonable about our presence. I PMed an admin at the beginning of the "invasion", and he said he was fine with our presence because we provoked thought and that was good. I suppose I'm not going back there, though, in light of what you've reported.Zadius wrote:I posted for quite some time on eteamrevolution.net forums as 'ravingatheist'. As for the OP question: I've found that it can be slightly productive, if you go into the forum with near infinite patience and rhetoric. Of course, it gets incredibly tiring after several long, nitpicky exchanges with the resident apologists, so I don't often find it worth the time. However, there have been some good conversations -- in particular, I remember one person I actually taught evolution. She's the "deconvert" Zadius mentioned.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

I love how you found him going to another forum for help in debating you.
I know alot of people do this but its kind of funny when you called him on it.
For me I like reading forums,( I read more then post) its like watching TV or reading a good book, always waiting for the next post.

It's not so much the fact that he went to another board for help, it's the fact that he was being evasive in that thread in order to 'buy time'. I pointed it out to demonstrate his dishonesty.vargo wrote:I love how you found him going to another forum for help in debating you.

Once in a blue moon there is someone who is willing to listen and try to understand the arguments. That's always refreshing. She actually tried to sign up here at SDN, but is still waiting for an activation link.Surlethe wrote:I remember one person I actually taught evolution. She's the "deconvert" Zadius mentioned.

I'm currently on a christian message board,. . . . . . . and what you've all said is pretty much the case there. However, still professing a . . . ."pseudo christianity", . . I can still tolerate the atmosphere. But yes, there are many topics I'm on that continually go around and around, . . . and I just can't understand how these people don't comprehend the logic of what I'm saying.
Oh well.
Oh well.

Indeed, which is why most (perhaps all; I've never seen an exception myself) Christian boards have very restrictive rules about what claims you're allowed to make, not just the way in which you make your claims.Lagmonster wrote:Put simply, admins on Christian boards are there to shield beliefs not capable of self-defense.

So if I claimed that Jesus was a flaming homosexual who inserted cacti into his rectum while mutilating his wang and fisting Judas, that might be frowned up.Darth Wong wrote:Indeed, which is why most (perhaps all; I've never seen an exception myself) Christian boards have very restrictive rules about what claims you're allowed to make, not just the way in which you make your claims.Lagmonster wrote:Put simply, admins on Christian boards are there to shield beliefs not capable of self-defense.

Clearly, because we all know that hanging around with a dozen men, shunning women, and loving boys has absolutely no signs of homosexuality attached to it.SancheztheWhaler wrote:So if I claimed that Jesus was a flaming homosexual who inserted cacti into his rectum while mutilating his wang and fisting Judas, that might be frowned up.

I'm not sure I'd say "seek out" but I am engaged in a heated debate with one of the biggest WOI brocken record ID morons I've ever seen on StarTrek.com right now. Its in the "10 Forward" section of their message boards. Goes by the screen name of 'Kosh131' if you want to view his stupidity.vargo wrote: Does anyone seek out other forums and look for ID vs. evolution debates.???
