Custom Star Destroyer

Post by Coriolis »

I was bored today in class and sketched a cool-looking Star Destroyer. I tried to duplicate it onto my computer and here's what I got. I also "grunged" it up a bit to simulate battle-scarring and added two of the turrets firing.

Image
*Its scaled to an ISD (about a few meters longer)

It's a weird cross btwn the Venator and ISD. It looked cooler on paper.

I was just wondering if you had any suggestions to it. I dunno much about weaponary, but it's gonna definitely stay hangerless.

[edit]I realized I posted this in the wrong area  Can a mod move this to AMP?

I'll see you your 'grunged' star Destroyer with a "Hardokentator" Stardestroyer ;)

Looks more like a mid-size gunboat (despite the size comparison) than a full blown Star Destroyer, given the size and number of guns and with those movement lines behind it. Not bad-looking though, looks like something you'd use for system patrol, like an Imperial Coast Guard or something.

But mine's only around 200 meters long, so it's a frigate. It's meant as a pure anti-ship/anti-fighter platform with secondary transatmospheric capability for ground-attack and airborne artillery support; essentially a fast attack ship with secondary 'Floating Fortress' capability.

Oh please, I have seen threads with FAR more
home made pics of ISD out there then us poor fellows.

@Ein. That is a LOT, and I mean Nutsy amount of guns for a ship thats
only 50 meteres larger then a Cor-Corvette. Seriouslly, 400 to 500
meters would be an ok size for a ship with that many guns, PLUS you
could still keep the ablity of going in and out of a planets Atmosphear.

@ StarWarsJunkie: I will agree with a few others that your ship seems
better suited for a Gunboat/Patrole frigate sized ship. The few guns but
fast "apperance" of it would be nice as maybe a 300 to 400 meter sized
ship.

Nice. The thing which first struck me is the fact you've got turrets (presumably) sitting far from the center of gravity, which, I surmise, is beneath the bridge, as in most destroyer classes. The issue with this is, if they're heavy turbolasers, the momentum from the blast will put the destroyer into a spin; you'll see this effect most noticeably in the foremost turret when the ship fires a broadside, but also in the midships pair, to a lesser extent, since they'll have about half the torque the fore guns have.

Damned typodemons.

I think of custom ships all the time, but I can't draw so I can't draw them.

I once thought of a custom SSD - like Star Destroyer except it had long wings on the sides.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess a gunboat designation would suit it better. Taking Surlethe's suggestion, I'll probably dial down the turrets to a lower magnitude. I still have to add point-defense turrets though.

Crew compliments still have to be determined as well.

Jesus, that thing is absurdly HUGE...and kickass. May I ask what program you used to draw it?

Ok, I have the rough draft for the crew compliment and weaponary.

The Ardor, a Intercessor-Class Cruiser

Stats:
Length - 700 Meters long
Crew - 1800 men and 500 soldiers for boarding actions
Starship Compliment - Two Sentinel-class shuttles and a squadron of escort TIEs.

Armament:
- 6 Double Turbolaser Cannons (Variable Yield)
- 12 Light Turbolaser Cannons
- 36 Point Defense Cannons
- 4 Heavy Ion Cannons

I'm not familiar with vehicle classification, so I just called it a "cruiser". My figures might not make sense, as I am tired and I'm pulling numbers from out of my ass.

Feel free to correct me. I probably won't be updating this for a while. AP exams are in a few days and I'll be studying my ass off.

It really reminds me of a Venator. I like it.

And it's good to see another Einhander design.

Well, interesting ship, would like to see some other views of it. Guess I
have to start off by saying what you have look like the "Alligance"
StarDestroyer. Which is basically a large version of the original. Since
your stats mention having 10 large guns, 104 other guns, and then just
250 PD guns, what would you say the roll is? The 250 PD guns are WAY
more then a ship like that would need, especially as it would not bve in
much danger from fighters unless on mass.

ON your troop cpacity, the ISD has it's massive amount of troops as it's
designed to be a 'jack of all trades' that can subdue a planet with force
from land as well as space.

My ship is designed to be a pure Anti Capital ship ISD. That is why it has
so few Ion cannons and virtually no ground forces, as it's roll is a space
based ship killer.

Hope the comments arn't too 'unkind' ;) But just giving a full review. Now
all I need is to get the same for my ship ;)

Doesn't really look like a traditional ISD. Also, might want to get rid of the vaguely Klingon looking symbols on the 'wings'. :P

Thanks, yeah to be honest my ship is basically an ISD scaled up, so its not something particularly interesting. I never seem to be that good at overhead views but ill give it a try, i've also done a dreadnaught but I need to edit it just a little.
