My favorite critters have got their own article in Berkeley's Evolution library. Their article features behavioral evolution and goes into how evolution can lead to strange and poor adapatations (Like whales that can drown).

My on topic addition: The Berkely Evolution library is designed to provide tools for teaching evolution to teachers from k-16.
As to the Mantis Shrimp: they are intelligent and interactive voracious predators. They are designed to overwhelm otherwise protected animals through striking power and are a lot of fun to watch. I mean, comeon each eye sees in stereo, how cool is that?
