Chee on "Odds"

Post by Lord Poe »

Anyone think my query will get a fair shake, or will the fandos scream bloody murder?

Given that her co-author has now closed ranks over the issue, I doubt you'll get much in the way of a meaningful response.

I love the smell of September in the morning. Once we got off at Richmond, walked up to the 'G, and there was no game on. Not one footballer in sight. But that cut grass smell, spring rain...it smelt like victory.

Dynamic. When [Kuznetsov] decided he was going to make a difference, he did it...Like Ovechkin...then you find out - he's with Washington too? You're kidding.

Chee usually doesn't respond to questions regarding specific sources.

Seriously, I'd love to see what Stradly'd have to say about this.

The Dark Horse editor. He was attacked by Fandalorians and a James person because he dared to make a few statements about Traviss' handling of the clones and her writing:

I'm sorry about the double post, but Chee has responded to Lord Poe's query. Apparently, the clones and droids weren't the only ones fighting and the Jedi picture of the war is what Palpatine allows.

That qualifies as a completely ambiguous answer. Not that I have a problem with it or anything.

That's typical Leland-- he answers without really answering.

Not that I blame him, of course.

Neither do I. Despite Traviss' co-blog with a fan trying to legitimize "Odds", Chee did NOT back her up.

What Mr Chee wrote was quite commendable. He skirts around the issue of droid/clone numbers, not deigning to confirm the Guide or Odds.

What is more important is that he completely repudiated the idea that the Clone Wars are some sort of insignificant brushfire. Needless to say, it's obvious he actually read the Opening Crawl of RotS.

A good analogy you might use in your database, Wayne, is to get the definition of a small, "brush fire" conflict, think an example of it for real life (any recent tiny skirmish will suffice) and then replace words in the opening crawl to reflect the real life example. Cue laughter at how stupid it is.

(quick and dirty paraphrase)

"America is crumbling under the attacks of the ruthless [insert some leader guy from Craplakistan here]"

For maximum fun, photoshop the opening crawl to the "T-canon" version.

Episode III

REVENGE OF THE SITH

Brushfire! The Republic is
somewhat bemused by covert
operations made by the ruthless
Sith Lord, Count Dooku.
There are spec ops on both sides.
Evil is on a few dozen planets.

In a rare show of force, the
fiendish droid leader, General
Grievous, has sneaked into the
Republic capital and kidnapped
Chancellor Palpatine, leader of
the Galactic Senate.

As a significantly large part of
the Separatist Droid Army
attempts to flee the capital with
their valuable hostage, two Jedi
Knights lead most of the Grand
Army of the Republic to rescue
the captive Chancellor...

Is it just me, or is having a DH editor say a book is rubbish like Bill O'reilly telling Coulter to be reasonable? That book must be REALLY stupid.

Actually, a quick browse through the DH thread has told me more about Traviss' writing style than I ever, ever wanted to know.

Chee is great, but I'm not too fond of this though:

As it has been noted earlier, the Jedi are the ones leading the armies. They were reporting back to the Jedi Council and in ROTS we even saw Cody reporting directly to the Jedi Council. Wouldn't the Jedi have formed their own picture about how the war was going?

He dodged.

However, it was good to bring that before his attention. Seems he was troubled by the thing, because he didn't really answer, however, refuted the "brushfire" notion completely, admitting that the Clone Wars were massive.

It may be, another serious review (remember the Ex?) is in the works. Something like introducing countless other clones outside of GAR, for starters.

That doesn't necessarily back up Traviss' idiotic idea that the Jedi were Palpatine's coconspirators either. As we have been pointing out, even a fraud needs to be believable enough to pass off. If the GAR wasn't ridiculously small, and Palpatine wasn't fooling everyone about the numbers by a factor of billions (at least), then I don't see the problem with him tricking the Jedi in other ways that weren't mentioned. As everyone has already pointed out, he refuted Traviss' crap while still remaining "professional" and skirting around the issue for the most part.

I second that. Unlike a certain egocentric writer.

For easy reference:
Tasty Taste, sw.com wrote:The clone trooperss and the battle droids aren't the only ones fighting in the Clone Wars. Deep-seeded intra-planet conflicts are sparked on numerous worlds like Mon Calamari and Jabiim prior to the arrival of the Confederacy and Republic forces. So regardless of droid or clone numbers, the galaxy is being ravaged by the Clone Wars.

Conspiracies abound and no one knows who to trust. All the while, Palpatine has been driving a wedge between the Jedi and the Senate, which continues to be plagued by corruption. Ultimately, it is this distrust that brings about the downfall of the Republic.

For the most part, the picture of the war that the Jedi have is the picture that Palpatine allows them to have.
Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Extralife style.

Needless to say, it's obvious he actually read the Opening Crawl of RotS.
Ravaged. The Galaxy. Yes. Chee's the man.

"World War I or World War II. Wrong style of war for that" - a blatant anti-Lucas-vision statement from Traviss. Chee, however, sees it as George intended it to be. God, ANYONE with half an eye to see the opening crawl and the battle in the beginning of RotS would understand this grand vision.
