Final Revolution name revealed: Nintendo Wii
Moderator: Thanas
So I guess this means every goddamn video game columnist out there is going to make at least one pee joke when reviewing a Nintendo Wii game.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

Sorry, my Latin is bad (to say the least) but I was under the impression the plural of -ius is often -ii and pronounced "ee-eye," e.g., Julius -> Julii.Grandmaster Jogurt wrote:Um, how are you getting that pronunciation? The letter I in Latin is pronounced either "ee" or like the consonantal use of Y. The "ai" sound comes from the diphthongs AE and AI.

From what I learned in high school, Julii would be pronounced, roughly, "yuu-lee-ee".Brother-Captain Gaius wrote:Sorry, my Latin is bad (to say the least) but I was under the impression the plural of -ius is often -ii and pronounced "ee-eye," e.g., Julius -> Julii.Grandmaster Jogurt wrote:Um, how are you getting that pronunciation? Wii is just so damn wacky that it's starting to grow on me.

A point that a number of gaming sites are starting to bring up....apparently, Nintendo don't seem to have trademarked "Wii". Add into that the online survey that Nintendo have sent out to some people, asking for reactions to the Wii name, and what they think of the name compared to Revolution....and I'm starting to wonder if we haven't all been punked. Could Nintendo's whole intention from the beginning have been to do a backflip on this come E3, using the intentionally poor name as a way to get free publicity prior to the show?

It wouldn't be unheard of, and honestly, the day of the name change, Nintendo was being spoken about damn near everywhere on the net.
You can't buy publicity like that.
Well you can, but not just for costs of a quick flash production.
