Coolest Character/Callsign/Emblem, Ever

Post by HemlockGrey »

That thing with the black rose petals in the thread about Sakura vs the Axis got me thinking. Who or what is the coolest fictional character ever, and what is the coolest fictional callsign or emblem?

For me, a contender for 'Character' would be Zeratul, the Dark Templar.

'Emblem' should be obvious. Hail the Standard of the Black Company!

OK, I think you were looking for fictional ones, but I'm bringing in a real-life callsign.

Herman "Fish" Salmon, one of the test pilots of the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter.

Bah, the company standard can be plainly seen on the cover to "The Black Company". That is not it.

Coolest character: Gihren Zabi. A cold, intelligent, firebrand who cheerfully ordered the deaths of billions.

Coolest callsign: Red Comet, Char Aznable's nickname in Gundam.

Coolest Emblem: the flag of the Delaz Fleet:
Image
The symbol in the center is the original symbol of the Principality of Zeon, whom they fight for. The red background indicates both the blood they've spilled to get where they are, and the blood they're willing to spill to achieve their dream. The cross indicates that they realize the Federation is gunning for them, but will fight on anyway.

I've spent a bunch of time thinking up callsigns for Freespace. Tell me what you think:

Death
Reaper
Iceheart - after Ysanne Isard
Cossack
Derelect
Starscream - after the transformer
Spaz
Bear
Boss Man
Gunnar - Norse Mythology

I've got a lot more, but they're all at home.

Coolest emblem: That of the Purple Dragons of Cormyr :D

Coolest callsign: "Alpha 1" from the 'MechWarrior 2 intro movie 8)

Coolest Character: Marc C. Dusquesne
Why: He's a villian, yet by the end of the series, he "won". Prototype of David Xanatos and other intelligent, competant, and ultimately victorious villians.

Runner-Up: Jefferson H. Clay
Why: Great starship captain, alive and dead. Some of the best lines a dead man has ever had.

Best Callsign: Ransom (from Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising)

Best Insignia: Antaeus

(Special Mention) Best Characters: The entire cast of Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising

Best Character: Owen Deathstalker. A guy with the ultimate power, yet he doesn't want it and tries everything possible to avoid it.

Best Callsign: Not sure it's best, but mine for flight sims is always Boomer, since that's my family nickname (because I was a very big baby). I have a love for the heavy fighters (Tomcats are my specialty).

Best Emblem: I don't pay much attention to emblems. My favorite joke emblem is from the SW CCG, when they put the snowflake for the Snow Trooper instead of the Imperial symbol. Maybe the twin dragon logo from Armored Core 3.

Best character: Imperial Commissar Yarrick - the saviour of Armageddon, held off the ork invasion with hardly any support and endured grevious wounds that would have killed a lesser man.

Best embellem: The Imperial Eagle

Bah, the company standard can be plainly seen on the cover to "The Black Company". That is not it.
No, that is Soulcatcher stabbing a pentagram. The Standard is clearly described to be a death's head breathing fire.

Look on Soulcatcher's shoulder. You can see the badge. It's similar to what you have but not quite the same.

Hmm, didn't think of that for my earlier post. That is indeed a very cool emblem, so I'd have to say a toss-up between the Purple Dragons' and the Imperial Eagle as my favorite emblem :D
