Phasing cloak and the Force

Post by Enola Straight »

I read in Mike Wong's fanfic "Conquest" how a Soverighn class Starship with the phasing cloak device was still detected by the New Empire.

When Geordi and Ro were accidentally phased cloaked, Deanna Troi was unable to sense them.

Would a phase cloak effectively render a force sensitive/user unable to sense the phased person?

The Force has shown a far more powerful Telepathy vs a person who's extrasensory skill is Empathy.

Sadly they gave no reason why phase-cloaking cloaks feeling. :?

I mean they could ineract with Air...but their minds were somewhere else...whatever B&B

I'm not very knowledgeable about the Star Trek universe, so I don't know how their interpretation of a phasing cloaking device works. If it takes the craft partially (or fully) into another dimension, as I have always thought of phasing cloaks, I would say no. Otherwise, however, I think the Force would pick up the occupants of the cloaked ship.

Not to sound nitpicky but wasn't B&B Voyager and Enterprise? I think TNG was Berman & Piller

Later TNG was B&B, as evidenced by the episode in question, "The Next Phase." Troi's telepathic powers are obviously incredibly weak, as Ro and Geordi could still breathe air, transmit soundwaves and were influenced by gravity ... even though they didn't fall through the floor but could walk through walls.

I wonder why it is that Ro an LaForge were not stopped by walls,
they could walk through them. But for some reason, they did not
pass through the floor. They just walked along like anybody else.
The walls could not hold them, but the floor could. Odd....

That has got to be one of the dumbest things in the history of ST. Why would their phasing out differentiate between the floor, walls, air, and other matter? Can anyone think of a good way to rationalize this?

Because the gravity plating is in the floor, ,not the walls,
and they are affected by gravity still,

Because of a psychosomatic reaction? They are used to talking on the floor, so even though they could pass through it, they still "pantomine" walking on the floor because that's what they're used to.

And the air affects them as well. I don't think there is a really good explanation for why it occurs.

Also don't forget in the Enterprise transporter phase malfunction episode, Hoshi is able to do the exact same things as in The Next Phase, but she can sit on a table, while Geordi in The Next Phase can walk right through it.

It seems to be sorta psychological. When you expect to be able to do something, like sit on the table or walk on the floor, or breathe air you can, but when you expect to walk through the wall, you do that also. Like Yogi kinda said.

But suppose you stop expecting to be able to do this... then you would fall through the floor?

Hm...

*Phase Cloaked vessel approaches ISD*
ISD: To whoever is on the vessel approaching us - you do realize that because you are phase cloaked, you are going to pass righyt through the floor of you ship and fall into space, right?
Crew of PC vessel: *looks down* *falls* AAAAAAAAAGH!
ISD comm. officer: "We got another one sir. You want us to scrap this one as well?*
