Okay, was the board down for anybody else during the last hour or so?
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'

'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

I was going try posting some equations in Testing, but that requires entering it as HTML. But when I try to post, the 'Options' bit says that HTML is off. I went to my profile and turned HTML to be always on, but that doesn't seem to enable HTML for me....

Board's loading slower than usual. Some on the chat were reporting that it was down entirely for them last night, mostly overseas users though.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

I apologize if this has been posted before, but I'm getting messages like this a lot when I try to do an post search on Mike (doesn't seem to happen when I search on less prolific members):

Those kinds of errors indicate that the search was taking too long, probably because it was coming up with too many hits.

PS. I just did a bugfix upgrade, so hopefully there are no disruptions other than the 5-minute downtime that we just experienced.

IS it possible to increase the max time for a search so it can return full results? This error also occurs when I'm doing a search on a term that appears in many places.

Well, it's not limited by a timer per se, but by the search using up more than 16MB of memory. So the only way to increase the limit is to increase the thread memory allowance, and that can open up a whole new can of worms in terms of memory usage. My server only has 2GB of RAM after all.

Ah, so now a technical question, does setting which forum I want to search in help?

Has someone changed the TimeStamp? By all the clocks here, its' 4:48pm, but the timestamp on my posts is a full hour earlier!

I'm pretty sure Mike's mentioned that the board doesn't observe DST. So for part of the year they're off by an hour.

Yes, I'd have thought so, since it would minimise the size of the result set which is returned by the query. Any way in which you can minimise the number of results should help similarly.

phpBB doesn't automatically deal with DST - you can fix this in your profile however if you want, I believe :)

The problem was solved for a while, but now it's doing it every time. Isn't there some sort of mod to only return the first 1,000 posts for a given member? That would fix it, right?

I've noticed the same thing, but I've found that if I'm looking to link to a particular post, I can run a simple search and limit it to a particular forum or look for topics instead of posts.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

In general, when searching on a member's posts where the postcount is very large, you should restrict it to particular forums in order to cut down on the size of the search. If it becomes a persistent problem, I suppose I could always set up the Archive board again and give it a much bigger PHP per-session memory allocation, so it can handle larger searches. I don't want to do that on the main board because of the large number of users online at any given time.

Try telling the search to only return results within the last month. If you're only looking for the most recent posts, that should work.
