Peculiar Linux Problem

Post by General Zod »

So. I recently gave Linux another shot with Mandriva One. The installation went fairly smoothly surprisingly, but after re-booting I noticed a bizarre problem. The keyboard seems set on NumLock, and no matter what I do it won't turn off.

Using a Thinkpad 600x, this means I can't use about half the keyboard. I've already turned off the 'turn numblock on boot up' option off in settings, and haven't had any luck. Fiddling around with other settings doesn't seem to do anything, and I can't think of anything else that might be wrong. (Yes, I turned off the numb-lock key). So, if anyone's had similar problems or knows what I might be able to do to fix it, would definitely appreciate the help.

Does this only happen when you are in X? Checked BIOS settings? I don't know much about Mandriva... debian based distros seem to work fine though. http://panopticon.csustan.edu/thood/tp600lnx.htm
Maybe try Ubuntu?

I tried Ubuntu and didn't like the interface. And it started happening after I installed Mandriva, so. . . .

I would check this discussion group. If you still can't get it working after a couple days, flatten and install Kubuntu; like Mandriva, it uses KDE.
