Illusion of Reality and the Matrix

Post by kojikun »

If you were in the Matrix, and assuming you knew that you were, would you want to be freed from it? why?

I personally wouldn't, unless I got to check out the cool computer tech the robots came up with. I see no point in wanting to remove myself from it. Granted, my body is being used for some fucked up powersource, but freedom of my mind is what matters. the matrix is indistinguishable from reality, so in effect i am no held captive. Why exit the matrix into a world where everything is real, but you have nothing to experience? I would rather stay inside the matrix where theres a whole world of digital but flawlessly realistic things. Reality, in a way, is what we percieve. Like Morpheus said, is sense what defines real, when sense can be manipulated how can you say its real? I couldn't care less. As long as I enjoy myself, i dont care.

I would try to get out. Cause no matter how bad the real world may be, it's worse living a lie.

Quake is a game. The matrix, on the other hand, is a prison. Two different things.

The matrix is everything but a prison. If anything, its the closest thing to true freedom possible. Bodily freedom is irrelevant, is it not? You can do anything you want in th matrix, like in the real world. The only difference is that you have two bodies instead of one, and one of those is strapped into a machine, the other is free to live normally. If te matrix had more physical freedom (meaning, if people could get shot but not die) then you would have the ultimate freedom to do anything, even the most unspeakable horrors, and harm noone.

I look forward to the extremely realistic matrix so I can do everything I wish but can't do in reality. I don't care if my body is captive, my mind is not. Mind and idea are what matter to me.

If you had lots of money, would you want to shut yourself away and play video games nonstop until you die?

Personally, I wouldn't. Pleasure and pain are simply how your brain rewards you for doing something it *thinks* is good or bad. Oftentimes it gets it wrong. I don't see the goal of life (at least mine) as the pursuit of satisfying this urge. My rational mind is able to (usually) supercede this pleasure instinct in place of the greater instinct of self-preservation, thus I don't smoke, do drugs, etc.

Likewise, living in an artificial reality that is always fun might satisfy my pleasure desire, and I'd feel happy all the time. However, I'd realize that the ultimate goal of self-preservation is best served living in the real world and pursuing real objectives, like having kids and such.

Basically, it would make for a nice vacation, but I'd remain concerned about the potential of becoming addicted to the "fun" aspect it and losing a sense of what is more important.

You can term it any way you want, but you are being distracted by the Matrix so that someone else can USE your body for their purposes and without your consent. If there was a line that free humans could stand in to sign up to be a battery for the machines, then fine. But to be born and raised to be someone else's property, even if you don't realize it, is slavery.

And while you do it, you are being used. If I drug you with Morphine so you are nice and happy and then take a toilet plunger too you, are you going to claim you like it because at the time you were happy?

The Matrix is a false reality. It is an absolute lie.

I choose Reality.

Hmm. Relatively pleasant manufactured reality that is indistinguishable from "true" reality, or trying to survive on a scorched earth. Um, matrix, please. Since the machines obviously need us for something (and I don't buy the power supply answer), t'would be better to work out a mutually beneficial arangement with the machines. Once "true" reality is tolerable again, have being part of the matix optional. Since the two are essentially indistinguishable (aside from the rare glitch), the choice between the two would be a matter of lifestyle choice until "true" reality catches up.

You can't bargan with a mechanical lifeform that already has total control over Mankind. They would see no gain in efficiency or bonus to themselves, so they would just reject it and continue with how they've been doing it for decades.

Why don't you buy the power supply answer? They say that's the reason in the film.

'Cause it's ludicrous. Humans generate far less harvestable energy than they consume. Personally, I think they use humanity for a creative think-tank. Somewhere along the line they lack something that they cannot emulate, and it sure as hell isn't the miniscule electrical and waste heat energy we generate.

So you're just going against official information just because you don't like it?

Odd.

Well, there are two more movies to go, and rumor has it that the reality that the resistance has escaped to is actually another layer of the matrix. *hope, hope, hope* It's just too nasty a flaw in an otherwise spiffy flic.
