Even FOX things the phelps family is crazy

It rather much speaks for itself, save to say that the Phelps are escalating.
That and the responses at the board I saw this at were amusing, especially the local religious person who immediately declared her to be promoting stuff like Cainism or Luciferism (which he usually does when people expose the bad side of religion or suggest a different interpretation of the text when he does), but that is beside the point. The phelps's are insane and it's so bad even Fox news will say so.
If this has been shown before or belongs elsewhere, I apologize.

The whole Phelps clan is just off the scale as far as idiocy goes - they make Chick look like a moderate. Falwell is on record as calling Fred Phelps an "idiot" and a "nut". Jerry freakin' Falwell!

The funniest remark I saw from browsing through the comments:

Yeah, he was basically saying 'She's not REALLY christian'.

I would like people to know that she is a member of a familistic cult, and is completley anti-christian in her own beleifs. Her beleifes are more of a hostile take on muslimism. 100 members in the church, and 80% are family. When blantantly asked what her sins are, she had no retort. She would KNOW her disrespect in general is a direct disobedian charateristic to carry.
Either way, some times I HATE that first ammendment

And after someone noted that she looked like she was blitzed on meds, Bippypoo repliedI honestly see like a satanic romance in her face. Several of her phrases and slurs hint towards Cainism, Luciferism, and meager cultish secularism.I'm sorry...the look on her face spells it all out. She's a loon, plain and simple. She doesn't need to be smacked around, she need meds. FAST!
Scary lady.

I suppose the most amusing part of it all was his need to identify her with these obscure movements, rather than simply declare the woman and her ilk batshit insane.Drunk on the holy water, methinks. After listening to her speach a little closer, I have founder her to be a cainite - or damn close to one.

Previous experience in interacting with him in a religious debate already gave me that lessen many times over.
This was the same person who declared my 1.2 million population estimate for the exodus event an overgenerous assumption, tried to justify the million+ man israelite army (and rationalize the hundred thousand man discrepancy between accounts), 'scientific foreknowledge' claims, and other things. I don't think I ever got a response from him on the differences between the gospels before he inadvertantly revealed he couldn't be expected to deal with the discussion rationally (A long series of events which, yes, included accusations of luciferism just because I 'badmouthed' the christian god by pointing out instances where he was far less than admirable), and honestly, it wouldn't have been anything other than the same song and dance he had been feeding us for the last several pages.
Of course, he's not quite as bad as the guy who claimed he could see demons and that homosexuality, among other things, was caused by demonic infestation.
Fortunately, crazy people such as they are in the minority on the board, so I can mostly ignore them.

She made even ME PRAY that there is a god who will put his wrath upon her...
That smile... she even smiled during the "maximum hate tirade* -mode. I can't believe it.
Boy, can't you just obey any of the rules of the lord, lets say "no wearing of two differend types of thread on the clothing" or her?

A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

She's clearly broken in some way. If I encountered her in a different context and didn't hear what she was talking about, then I'd allow that it might be something slight. Here, though, given that that was her expression as she assertively said what she was saying? No. It is not a minor problem.
Now, I also think it's in bad taste to invite someone to an interview so you can call them nasty names on the air; but I don't expect much from those two.

The whole Westboro Baptist circus plays right into the hands of the likes of Falwell and, for that matter, Hannity. They give something to which the actual mainstream religious right platorm can be compared and look reasonable and sane. Hannity and Falwell get to look like moderates by calling Phelps crazy. What's especially disingenuous is that the Phelps platform really isn't that far off from more acceptable forms of Christian Reconstructionism. Phelps would send gays to camps to kill them; Falwell would send them there to be brainwashed--er, cured of homosexuality. What a swell guy. Not at all like that crazy fucker Phelps.

If you look carefully at what Hannity was saying, you'll note that he never even hinted that there was anything wrong with her seething hatred of gays; just her attitude toward veterans and war casualties.RedImperator wrote:The whole Westboro Baptist circus plays right into the hands of the likes of Falwell and, for that matter, Hannity. You never saw the episodes where he was bashing Phelps back when he was protesting homosexual funerals exclusively?Darth Wong wrote:If you look carefully at what Hannity was saying, you'll note that he never even hinted that there was anything wrong with her seething hatred of gays; just her attitude toward veterans and war casualties.

No; I'm just talking about this interview. But with the earlier interview, I'd be very curious to know whether he ever expressed any disagreement with his hatred of gays, as opposed to his use of the funeral tactic. It seems to me that Bigoted Middle America has a problem with Phelps' tactics, but not the hatred itself.Wicked Pilot wrote:You never saw the episodes where he was bashing Phelps back when he was protesting homosexual funerals exclusively?Darth Wong wrote:If you look carefully at what Hannity was saying, you'll note that he never even hinted that there was anything wrong with her seething hatred of gays; just her attitude toward veterans and war casualties.

It's a rhetorical question because such an episode probably doesn't exist. I don't seem to recall anyone outside homosexuals and atheist actually caring back when that was the case.Darth Wong wrote:No; I'm just talking about this interview. Sorry, the sarcasm wasn't obvious in your post. In any case, neither Hannity or Colmes really presented an argument other than flag-waving and "support our troops" in that interview IIRC. I certainly don't recall either of them standing up to defend homosexuals from her rabid hatemongering.Wicked Pilot wrote:It's a rhetorical question because such an episode probably doesn't exist. To do that you'd end up arguing theology with Phelps, and he'd probably win. You'll find yourself painted into a corner where the only way out is simply saying "you and your bible is full of shit!" When the country is 85+% Christian such a statement on national TV could be a career ender.Darth Wong wrote:Sorry, the sarcasm wasn't obvious in your post.
