So, guys, my computer has been really slow lately, (it took about 10 minutes to start it up).

So, I read the manual ( I'm not a computer guy, really) and did what it said.
I erased alot of old files I do not use anymore, but I'm wondering, is there another way to help this?
Please let me know.

Delete CometCursor, Gator and all the other crap you installed because it looked cool.

WTF is that crap and is there any way to fix it?
I cannot redo it, and I don't have enough money to hire some tech guy to come out and help.

Boot off the CD, wipe your HD partition table, create a new partition, and format it clean. No traces of the old install whatsoever.

Scan for a virus, or maybe the HD is dying.

It's mine now.
It used to be his, but he's getting a new one and he said I could have this one.
He didn't tell me it was like this.

Check if you have a directory called "windows". Delete it on sight. It's a dangerous virus and must be messing with your memory settings.

Try getting a slightly older OS, like Windows 98. It's far easier to install, and you don't have to worry about some of the crap that XP brings with it.

You'll have to run FDISK, though, since XP uses an NTFS partition and Windows 98 can't read that.

You CAN run XP on FAT32 if you install Win98 and upgrade, like I did with mine.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm saying that he can wipe and install Windows 98, which is easier (also less dangerous) for new computer users to install.
