Favorite Magic the gathering expansion sets

Post by thecreech »

I don't have the money to keep up with all the new sets. I buy alot of pre cons because the lack of funs for me to make my own decks but i was going through my cards and self made decks and realize i use alot of Odyssey, i like Threshhold cards. The onslaught block is also a favorite of mine. what about you guys

Ice Age was always my favorite(Snow Covered Islands for the win!)

Both because of the oddball creatures and the first massive MtG creatures(Remeber the Polar Kraken?)

Plus classics like the Zuran Orb, Crown of Ages and all the old favorites. Ice age was also the first set to have that fun cast a spell draw a card.

I rather liked Torment for the nightmares and the tainted lands. Then again, I like playing with black. There might be a connection there.

I would probably go with Tempest. Verdant Force, Meditate, Wasteland, Cursed Scroll, the hits just keep coming.

Oh, and as an aside, have any of you fellow MtG afficienados ever bought any original MtG art?

I just bought my first piece a month ago, 9th Edition Sleight of Hand by Jim Murray. I think I'm hooked.

Mercaddian Masques. Mainly because its what gave me rebels, and the deck I have used consistantly for 6 years now.

Oh by the way, I got two concentrated efforts that now make the deck even more of a pain in the ass.

I always liked Apocalypse. I'm a fan of multi-colors and powerful black cards, and the set has both abundance. :)

Hard to choose just one set, so I'll have to go with the Rath cycle. Ah, the good old days of powerful commons/uncommons dominating the game, and buying a tournament-worthy deck for $20. And add in Mirage block for Empyrial Armor and we have the glory days of my favorite archetype... shadow, armor, cataclysm, I win.

I'll have to give a bit of recognition to Apocalypse and Ravnica for lots of memories of good draft/sealed tournaments.

Mirrodin for giving me actual artifact deck, Urza's block.....for well just about everything else.

Ravinca for 2 casting cost Lightning Bolt/Heal for three....combined with Isocron Sceptre?

Ah, much, much, much fun.
