If I am not mistaken, we were promised a 12 minute gameplay trailer for Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Anyone seen this yet?

Yes. That Solid Snake.
Something on Samus' back and the backs of her hands are glowing. A side effect of the X/Metroid DNA? Her gun can turn into a beam sword.
EDIT: I took a closer look. the glowing parts(only on her left hand, not her right) are in a set pattern, and more ordered than I thought. Probably related to the operation of her suit.
Wow, they made Pit look a little more badass!
Note that the video goes on after it seems to end. Stay tuned for Snake.

I think those HD movies will only be released after E3 is over. I have also yet to see any shakycam movies either.

Overall shape is simpler than I expected but sufficently-designed. I'd assume that as a simple cradle + joystick it'll be a relatively cheap and common accessory.

Enemy Territories Quake Wars, spiritual expansion to RtCW stage demo:
Each side is totally differant. Very differant gaming styles.
Example: GDF medic is very traditional. The Strogg technican is similer, the way is killing humans(GDF) and injecting it into Strogg.
Or you can spawn into human corpses.
Firesupport Class: You can call in missles, helicopters, artillary guns.
Bunch of deployable items, Radars(shows enemies on command class).
Defense Turrets are deployable, can shoot down anything.
Teamplay: There's a command map, thats autoupdated regardless of people contributing. Server also allocates minimissions to team members, no need for retarded commanders leading. Rewards per minimission.
Of course, theres also oppertunity to plant a demo charge on a vehicle and kamakazie into an enemy base.
Netcode: Due to improvements by Carmack, netcode can transmit a shitload of data, capability for alot more vehicle detail, like realistic lift and drag. Wheel physics, etc. Basicly they're saying alot more detail.
Incident from trailer: DID THAT JEEP JUST JUMP OFF A CLIFF GUNS BLAZNG AND LAND IN A BASE?!
Megatexture information: Better covered elsewhere, done by Carmack, basicly, creates gigantic NON repeating textures that are completly unique. No tiling. With preformance...boost.
Vehicle gameplay: Your terrain will affect your speed and capability, Roads are faster, etc. But you can also do stuff like handbreak slides.
Story: Strogg invasion on earth.
Maps: Every single map is unique in some sort, either due to terrain(which affects gameplay) or due to story missions.
Weather affects gameplay.
Release date: 2006 late, When its finshed.

True, I think some 3D site had an interview with Carmack about it, half the stuff was above my head, however, somehow he did it, where they have the base texture information, and it loads only what it needs onto the GPU.

It seems so, although the enemies does display the damage done when they are hit, so I would expect some RPG elements are still there. Sort of like the castleroids (that's the Castlevanias with RPG elements), perhaps. I hope the hilarity, the side-quests and awesome story are still there though, like they were in the Thousand-Year Door.Darkdrium wrote:Looks like it's a platformer, not a rpg.

Now, for gamespy.
An interview with Will Wright
An interview with Will Wright
The guy rocks.
As E3 2006 gets underway, here is what Will Wright has to say for himself.
WW: We're saying that Spore is coming out in 2007. The message that we are getting from [Electronic Arts] corporate is "Don't screw it up," which is great. What they mean is, "Lets get it right." This will be the game's last E3.
GameSpy: So it will come out in the first quarter of 2007?
WW: Probably just after that, though we are not being precise. What we are saying is just outside the fiscal year, which is March.
GameSpy: So April or early May?
WW: Yeah. Right.
GameSpy: Still PC only?
WW: Well, actually we are going to go on all platforms, but we will come out on PC first. We will even come out on cell phones and stuff. One of the things in the game is that as you go around and encounter things creatures and plants, or whatever, you make trading cards of each thing. That is the metaphor for the database -- trading cards. So you can collect your cards. You can print them out. You can now play your own card game. That might be like the cell phone part. That stuff is so light. It's more about collectability as opposed to interaction. Every creature in the PC game is three or four megabytes. But the cards, that is the database that the player is building.
GameSpy: But the game itself is still "massively single-player"? (The term "massively single-player," which Wright created to describe Spore, refers to the concept that the creatures and plants and even cities that players create will be duplicated in an online database and duplicated in other players' games.)
WW: We could build a persistent world around Spore quite easily. First of all, 95 percent of the stars and planets will be offline. Nobody can speed up time. You cannot be all-powerful all of a sudden. I think it [a multi-player arena] is a separate universe that you need to go into. It's a new galaxy.
GameSpy: Have you started on your next project for after Spore?
WW: Oh, I always have so many ideas. No, I haven't actually started to work on a project. Usually about six months before I finish a game, I start to get serious about the next one. I'm still kind of batting around ideas. I am working on a book right now. I'm about halfway through the organization of it. The book is on design; it is a general design book. It's going to be a very graphic book.
GameSpy: How big is the Spore team?
WW: Our maximum team size is about 70 people, which is very small by today's standards.
GameSpy: I keep hearing about blockbuster games made by teams of 300 people.
WW: The Godfather had about 240, so having a team of about 70 feels really good. Basically we are outsourcing the artwork to the players. They are designing the creatures, vehicles, cities, planets. They are designing everything the plants. Pretty much everything in the game.
To build the creatures, you are starting out with parts. We have seven part categories -- feet, mouth, weapons Each category has four columns of parts, and each column has eight or nine choices. As your brain level increases, you unlock more columns. All in all we have about 400 creature parts. Each of these parts also has morphs.
GameSpy: So what are the odds of two people getting the exact same evolved creature without copying each other?
WW: Extremely low. Extremely low.
GameSpy: If I wanted to replicate a creature you made, could I do it?
WW: You would be able to do a pretty close approximation of it, but it would not be exact.
GameSpy: So who do you consider the best PC game designers in the world?
WW: I would put Peter Molyneux and Sid Meier at the top of the list. There were some people who I think would have been up there except they kind of took weird turns. Alex Garden Of all the odd things, he went off and started a company that sells automated parking systems.
GameSpy: What about John Carmack?
WW: I don't think of him as a game designer. He is a technologist. He is the best in the world at what he does by far.
I respect the Bioware guys a lot. Peter Molyneux and I almost merged our companies quite a few years ago. Bullfrog and Maxis came really close to merging.
GameSpy: That would have been a good fit.
WW: It would have been tricky because of the distance and all. Peter and I, you know, the creative guys, did not clash. The business guys decided that it did not make sense.
Oh, one more computer [game] designer who I really like is Tim Schafer. I don't like adventure games at all except for his. Grim Fandango was really a masterpiece.
I guess in console, there are only certain games that I spend a lot of time playing. Lately it has been Guitar Hero, only because Sid [Meier] talked me into playing it. He told me how great it was. Sid's addicted to that game.
GameSpy: I've got to ask, how do you think Sony will do with that $600 price point?
WW: Six hundred bucks; that is a lot of money. I'm rooting for Nintendo. What I don't like is that the way the Wii controller works depends a lot on how close you are to your TV. If you are five feet away it feels one way. If you are 10 feet away, it feels completely different.
GameSpy: What games are you playing these days?
WW: I am playing with my DS a lot. I am playing Brain Age and Sudoku.
GameSpy: How old is your brain?
WW: It's down to like 29. I did not like the original DS very much, but this new one [DS Lite] feels like an Apple product. It's heavier, smaller, and has a really nice screen. It's a lot brighter.

SQueeeee AMericas army preview
LOS ANGELES--We checked in with the developers of America's Army to see what was in store for Special Forces: Overmatch, the soon-to-be-released content update to the long running shooter. Overmatch will include a number of presentation tweaks, including updates to the menus that will make it easier to see player stats, and other important information. More visual representations of training qualifications for example, and their dependencies, will be available so that players know exactly what they need to do to get specific qualifications.
One interesting addition to the game will be integration of real-life heroes from the US Army. Pictures, biographies, and video documentaries of highly decorated soldiers from today's army will be available in-game, to give America's Army a more personal feel. The likenesses of these soldiers as well as their voices, will also be used to replace certain non-player characters in the game, such as the drill instructors, or the recruiters inside of the game's virtual recruiting station. You'll also be able to view the soldiers in their real life dress uniforms, complete with all their medals and ribbons, which are explained in great detail. You're never forced to learn about these heroes, but players will be incentivized to learn about that through experience points for viewing biographies and learning about them.
Overmatch will also introduced a quick-play system for the first time, which will let new players explore different aspects of the game without having to complete the training mode first. Online play in this "explore the Army" mode will happen on separate servers from the regular game, and those playing in this mode will not receive experience points for a character. You won't get access to all weapons and content in this mode of course. However, the developers see this mode as a great way for prospective players to try out the game before committing the time to go through the training modes and leveling up a character.
New character models will also be introduced in the game that better reflect what today's soldiers look like. The ACU uniform is the base model, with the new style helmet and Oakley goggles or sunglasses as part of the package. Helmets will have a night vision clip and players can choose to have their goggles or shades up on their helmet out of the way or down over their eyes. The models will also be wearing the new digital camouflage, with updated pouches, and no more canteens, as US Army soldiers today use camelbacks to carry water instead. You'll see those on the new models as well. A total of four new infantry character models and four new variations of special ops are available.
Drivable vehicles, for both players and the computer-controlled opfor, are perhaps the most exciting new addition to America's Army in Overmatch. We got to see fully armored Hummers, complete with machine gun or grenade launcher mounted up top. What's interesting is that these weapons are not manned with a soldier sticking out up top. In response to heavy casualties taken by turret gunners in Iraq, the Army has developed a remotely operated weapon aiming system for weapon mounts on hummers. Put simply, there's now a soldier inside of the vehicle, fully protected by the armor, who controls the gun up top with a joystick. Overwatch will simulate this by letting you see through the digital view point that the remote operator sees.
In addition to all of this new content, a new multiplayer map, and two new cooperative levels will be released with Overwatch, that will be playable with 12 man player teams. We got to peek briefly at the multiplayer map, which appears to be set in a desolate, dilapidated third world city. Rubble has collapsed off of multi-story buildings that are falling apart, giving players a more vertically oriented playing field, with plenty of places to climb up and get elevated firing positions. It looked like something out of Mogadishu as portrayed in Blackhawk Down.

an interesting note, during the fight with the lizard with the skull on its head as seen in this video (shortly after the five archers fall near the beginning of the video), an icon reading "Parry" appears with a Revolution controller and an arrow next to it.
Praxis, do you know how this works, since I've not seen it referred to in the many reviews of the demo, or does anyone else care to shed any light on it?
If anyone more capable than I could take screen captures it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: If you download it, it occurs 2:34 into the video.
