The presence of Robin Williams merely made the presentation better.
Funny man+Best Game of 2006/7="Hook the internet up to my veins!!!".

I was surprised to find out he's a big gamer, but I've enjoyed his work in movies, and it'd be pretty sweet to end up fighting him in BF2 one day. 'course, according to him he's a deadly sniper and I'd already be dead before seeing him.

I must say I am most impressed with Spore. Hell, I'm floored by it. This is one game I absolutely MUST get! I just pray my computer can run it...

I was also surprised by the news Robin Williams is such a big gamer. However I find the fact that he is quite awesome.

I can't wait to get the game and play it into the space-stage. That little bit where he was just death-raying the aliens after demolishing their orbital defense was awesome.

I too was suprised at how big of a gamer he was.

I fear his "Darwin would say 'oh man, I'm never going to take acid again'" comment will be prophetic for many people's creations. :wink:

Wonder how he broke the game. My first impulse was that it failed at miniaturizing his creature due to the sheer amount of limbs it'd have to cram onto the baby torso.

I don't like the fact that the game runs out of scale in the Space Age, with only 1 UFO (Unless Will Wright has another suprise for us), but the real meat is the creature designing IMO instead of that endgame of playing with your completed creatures through civilizations.

Otherwise, it was awesome. I laughed the whole time through, from the disembodied torso humping the air to the game refusing to keep going under the load of such horrible things he was creating. And Wright's constant ineptitiude at predation and his general ability to tick off aliens and then blow them up on first contact.

I plan on getting the game...and making a world populated by DAIKAIJU and DINOSAURS.

Because I CAN!

Though, I doubt they could breath fire...

I wonder if they can have multiple heads...

I don't think you could specifically lengthen the spinal cord to do so, but you could make a reasonable facsimilie with arms presuming you could use the mouse-wheel sculpting to make the ends of the arms bulbous and headlike.

The one potential flaw I can see is that you're apparently stuck with a single starship. Then there's that apparently the game updates with new NPCs based on the creations of other people, I could see the galaxy turning nasty pretty fast as players churn out xenophobic and militaristic races.

I wonder how much of it will be dependant on other-player content. I think it would be nice if the entire "sandbox" can be made for the player alone as an option. Because, lord knows, I want to design an entire ecosystem on my own -- just so I can have the joy of playing a top predator

I'm already planning on how to create a race of Tasoths. I'm wondering if I have the drive to start churning out all the XCom races. (at least the first two)

The races that populate your game will be taylored to your playstyle, so if you play a pacifistic race, you don't have to worry about being conquered a dozen times over.

Considering that placement of mouths, eyes and such seems completely arbitrary...I think it's safe to say that yes, you will be able to do multiple heads. Maybe not Hydra-like, but definitely a pushmi-pullyou kinda thing.

You might wanna plan aheadl if you're planning to get this game; I'm expecting a rush on stores when it comes out. I've already reserved a copy at Gamestop :P

Good luck on the Ethereals. Unless there's a racial psychological bonus when wearing crimson robes that can be bought. :P

I have a hundred ideas already for what creatures to make.....Is this late 06 or sometime in 07? I have found conflicting dates.
For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see,
Saw the Vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be;
Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails,
Pilots of the purple twilight dropping down with costly bales;
Heard the heavens fill with shouting, and there rain'd a ghastly dew
From the nations' airy navies grappling in the central blue;

It looks awesome, and I hope/expect that the super-predator NPC races will be a bit nerfed so they aren't killed. Also, I think that if you run into a militaristic race they'll just be xenophobic and unable to attack your world.

My point was that they were able to attack him in another system than thier own.

after he zapps the aliens he gets two messages. The first one is from the aliens he attacked. Will then comments that the planet was just a colony of someone else. Then he gets a second message from his homeworld telling him they were under attack from the aliens.

Bearing in mind hype will always be hype, I'm fairly excited after having watched this. Mainly I'd say the video demonstrates two inescapable truths.
  1. Robin Williams is not well. There's something gloriously yet fundamentally wrong with that man. The fact that he served as enough of a chaos factor to make the game go belly-up should come as absolutely no surprise. I have to pity the creature, though. It should never have seen the light of day.
  2. If this game makes good on its promises, it should kick warehouses worth of ass. Even if it doesn't, the inherent ideas will serve to push the creative envelope of designers and programmers for years to come.
One has to wonder about what specs will be necessary to run this, and at which point evolution of creatures and colonies will progress beyond the computer's ability to keep up, though.
