The ideal system for playing Supreme Commander will be an SLI'd Nvidia rig running an Intel CPU.
Well, that was inevitable considering the scale of the game and the fact that there is no unit limit.

Grr, I hate the fact that I'm stuck on this 56k connection. I want to see the full presentation without having to wait an eternity for it, damnit! :x

Well, let's hope one 7800gtx can handle it, cause damned if I'm wanting to buy another one!

If I've any luck I'll win that Fx-55 they're giving away at a LAN party i'm going to at the end of this month. My 3Ghz Athlon aint gonna do it. <crosses fingers>

Hmmm, 2007? Yeah, I have should G80s or R600s by then!

Current gen cards should handle it just fine without SLI or CF, but you'll probably have to give up AA/AF and the high quality textures and effects.

Ace, double check SLI support for multiple monitors - every time I re-enable SLI after a driver update, it tells me that other monitors may go black.

I'm mostly joking on the SLI, the chances of finding a cheap 6800GT nearby are slim, and apprently my PSU lacks another molex to merge with my one spare molex to create a 6 pin connector.

By the time SC comes out I'm sure there will be a handful of single GPUs, in the $300+ range that will work just fine.

Quick clarification: Do you mean original TA or TA Spring, and do you mean it breaks the Computer opponents, or the total AI of the game (preventing you from using units appropriately).

Original TA. And the AI/Computer opponents cant see your stuff since the 40x40 diaginal distance is greater than 2^16 distance units which the AI is limited too. So basicly; the AI cant detect anything to attack so it is even more stupid than normal

Also nukes dont reach far enough.

At 40x40 you'd only hit the limits of nuke range if the silo was in the corner and trying to hit the other corner... it's when maps get bigger than that that you start to realize that range limit.

Bah, ranges are still too short. I want battleships to be flinging shells at 20-km ranges!

And I want my stealth bombers to be lobbing the equivalent of AGM-129s from a couple of hundred klicks out at your BBs.

The battleship in the demonstration video fired pretty far, but certainly nothing like the 20km you're talking about. :P

EDIT: Although all your concerns can be answered simply by the fact that Chris Taylor doesn't want a slow-paced modern-type of warfare where you fire a missile from tens of miles away, and then zoom away at supersonic speed. His aims are more WW2 style, fun over realism, etc.

It looked like it had ranges of a few kilometers at best, and since they were merging in the combat was pretty close-in.

Even in the context of World War 2 ... on that 20km x 20km a battleship should be able to engage anything on it, LOS restrictions aside. The 16"/50-cal Mark 7 had a maximum range of some 38km. I do understand the point, of course, but ground combat is plenty good for short-range while leaving long-range naval goodness.

Here's a link to a .zip file containing the ~11 minute presentation narrated by Chris Taylor: link. Thanks should be directed to Pak from SupComUniverse.

*Gibbers* - After watching that presentation its a crime that this game won't be out till next year. I just hope it'll run on a PC that isn't comparable to SkyNet.
