A better twist to that is to use the bulb of the breaklight and insert it into the gas tank. You have to break the bulb and be careful not to damage the element, but when the element is lit by the electrical current it should lit off the fumes in the tank.

His lunacy is not his fault, it seems to have been imposed on him by a toxic home environment. As much as I hate sounding like some liberalist lawyer out to excuse the world, he is a sort of victim. This won't excuse him, however, if he actually were to hurt somebody though.
Is he in such a bad environment, though? From what little I've heard of his mother seems to push him hard to get good grades and excel at school - does anyone have something different to say about his home life?

I've never dealt with RayCav personally, but this is the first I've heard of his violent fantasies being about hurting himself. That is a bad development. If all that anger turns inward, it won't take long for him to do something drastic, and possibly hurt others in the process.

I hope some of you guys that talk to him on a regular basis strongly encourage him to seek professional help - in many areas he could get it free or at greatly reduced prices on a sliding scale plan, as he is a high school student with assumably little income.

I knew a few guys like him in highschool. Out of the three, one is dead, one is in prison, and one is still in therapy, but has a fairly good life.

This is serious stuff we're talking about here. RayCav is suicidal, and seems to have some psychological problem. But I'm not the SD.net amateur psychoanalysist. I say we find a way to tell his parents about what their son is doing, and perhaps they'll reconsider.

This tugra is that of Abdul Hamid II, who was the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire to direct the affairs of state personally. He ruled from 1876-1912. The CUP staged a coup in 1912 which deposed him in favour of a malleable successor that let them institute certain nominal reforms, though a rough triumvirate soon formed in the CUP that ran the government (And got the OE into WWI).

Or just do a search on Gnutella or KaZaa for "CIA handbook". It'll show up as the "CIA Handbook of Dirty Tricks."

I'm sure the Central Intelligence Agency had absolutely nothing to do with it.

A Tugra is actually a bit of a caligraphic sigil; you could call it a signature, but it what it is, basically, is a seal (Done in caligraphy - and the real ones were exquisitely coloured), unique to each Sultan, which was placed on important state papers and documents which had been formally approved by the Sultan, along with decrees, orders, and the promulgation of Laws.

alternatively break the glass very carefully so as not to break the filament... connect an M-80 to the filament to use as a dispersal mechanism... tape a sandwich bag to the screw thread filled with your choice of payload (confetti, urine, mace, lighter fluid, etc.)... screw into socket with power OFF.

Glad to know I'm not the only one :)

Anybody have any idea how to get in contact with RayCav? All we know is he's in Colorado. If not, can we tell some authorities what we know to track him down?

Even if his home environment is not any more extreme than some others, he is having a very averse reaction to it. I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but remember how the Columbine kids alerted everyone for over a year before they went off their nut? And no one did anything?

A lot of people on this board talk about how futile the human race is sometimes-- but that's just inaction in the face of wrong. Don't contribute to it. If someone has a contact point, I'll call him.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If you could get a mod to do some IP traces from his old posts here, you might be able to narrow down where in Colorado he lives, but only if he's using a local ISP. He posts to ASVS from yahoo, so that's no help. Try Shep, or WeeMadAndo, they seem to talk to him fairly regularly. RayCav is on AIM as well, I think his nick is listed earlier in this thread. I did some Google mining but was unable to find anything useful.

I've thought abuot talking to him via AIM, as I'm the guy all my friends turn to when they need to talk, but I'm not a professional by any means, and have no experience in dealing with problems of his caliber. I might very well give him bad advice, or set him off, unknowningly saying the wrong thing.

He needs some serious, intensive, long term therapy, be it sweat-lodges or psychoanalysis, and possibly some meds to stabilize his brain chemistry.

I would hesitate turning him into the authorities, if only for the reason that the wheels of 'justice' might push him over the edge before they took him seriously enough. If a bad grade has him talking about drinking drain cleaner, a visit from the FBI might just send him past the point of no return.

I'm not saying we shouldn't do anything, but I would really try to talk to RayCav first, and determine if he realizes that there is a serious problem, and if he's willing to try and get some help.

If not, it might be best to 'turn him in'. I agree that RayCav is entitled to his freedom, and his hobbies and interests (as much as they disgust me), but if he is seriously considered harming himself, and possibly others, the line has been crossed.

Instead of telling the legal authorities, have you guys thought of figuring out a way of maybe telling Ray's parents about his behavior?

That's a really good point. There should be some leeway between nothing and The Man.

I wonder if telling his parents would help though? It sounds like a lot of the grief in his life is coming from his parents, or specifically his mother. Would we be adding fuel to his mother's fire?

But on second thought, he IS a minor (he's 17, right?) and however we feel about what we 'should' do, his parents should be informed, as he is their responsilbility.

It seems like they should already be aware of that, or am I being a dreamy idealist?

SHould we set up a poll on what should be done (if anything) to try and help RayCav?
