Spoiled Rich Kids on MTV show "My Sweet 16"

Today i saw only glimpses ( And i mean glimpses) of a show on MTV called "My Sweet 16" on there, there was a 16 year old girl named Chelsea who's parents had thrown this extravagent party for all her friiends. It consisted of people who were wearing togas and it had a roman theme. It took place inside this hotel dance hall

The thing that irked me was that some teens had accidentally knocked down her cake and she kicked them out. Im like "It was an ACCIDENT. It was unintentional" She then acted like a little brat, throwing tantrums and complaining about her friends.

One thing i like to know, why would her parents spend an unknown amount of money on a party in a rented dance hall in a hotel, on all this roman stuff and to hire a DJ and a dance floor...Just to celebrate their daughter's 16th birthday.

On another note, another episode, another parent actually brought their 16 year old daughter an SUV of all things. It was an Escalade. What does she need with a big old truck like that anyway.

Too much money for their own goods. What was that other MTV show, "Rich Girls" or something like that? It's sickeningly amusing.

There is no problem with a parent every so often indulging their kids, but these girls evidently got their way too much of the time.

Sweet 16 party shocker: 'I so want a Range Rover'

LOS ANGELES - It sounds like a situation comedy: spoiled rich kids whose incredibly indulgent parents spend as much as $200,000 on a birthday party. And the kids are unhappy.
But "My Super Sweet 16" is not a comedy. It's an MTV reality show that's more jaw dropper than knee-slapper.

Unlike players on "Survivor" and "Fear Factor" who suffer on camera for a chance to win big bucks, the "Sweet 16" participants already have beaucoup Benjamins to host the lavish parties that land them on the show, which kicked off its second season last month.

But it's teens behaving badly - and parents who let them - that is the draw of the show.

Take Ava, the Beverly Hills 15-year-old who wailed, shrieked, whined, manipulated and abused her divorced parents into throwing her the "Arabian Nights"-themed Sweet 16 bash of her dreams at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Ava and her parents declined to be interviewed by the Daily News, but on the show, her dad Moussa said the tab for his daughter's big day was "close to $200,000, including the car" he gave her as a gift.

When mom Mitra took her to Paris to shop for a gown, Ava complained that one $2,550 red creation looked like a "crayon." She scolded her mom: "You're so annoying. You kill everything."

Ava groused while sitting in the $45,000-plus Mercedes-Benz sports car Daddy was buying her that it was "small and claustrophobic" and shrieked, "I soooo want a Range Rover."

When the desired SUV didn't arrive on the morning of her 16th birthday, Ava threw a tantrum, even when her parents took her to dinner at the ultrachic Dolce. "They totally killed my birthday," she moaned. (Her party, and a ribbon-wrapped white Range Rover, came days later.)

While the cameras rolled, the defiant Ava snuck off on a 100-mile trip to Santa Barbara, Calif., to shop for clothes, causing her furious mom to cancel her credit card.

Compared to Ava, the Betencourt triplets were downright gracious when Dad threw them an $80,000 Las Vegas-themed 18th-birthday gala.

"I actually had to put together a Powerpoint presentation on my laptop to convince the girls it was a good idea," said Anthony Betencourt, 45, who is divorced from the girls' mom, Joan.

"They are sweet, unassuming kids. They really don't ask for a lot. They've got jobs, college-ready grades," he says of Ashley, Candace and Jessica. "They are pretty low-key kids."

Betencourt spent $40,000 to hire the popular rock band Sugarcult to perform at the 150-guest soiree last June, and another $40,000 to replicate a miniature Sin City in the hotel ballroom where the bash was held.

"It's hard to argue that it wasn't a lot of money, but it's amortized out over three children. It's a little over the top, but it's not as bad as it might seem otherwise," he told the Daily News.

Even though the blowout cost enough to send two kids to Harvard for a year, Betencourt says he didn't face any criticism from family or friends.

"Not a scintilla of anything negative. ... Most people said the kids really came off as nice girls," he says of the triplets.

The girls, too, say the televised bash was a hit with most of their chums. "Everyone loved it. Some people were jealous of course. Other than that, people were just really stoked," says Jessica.

Nina Diaz, vice president of MTV News and Documentaries, said the show doesn't encourage the families' lavish spending or pay the tab. "The people who end up on the show are already planning their parties by the time we get to them," says Diaz.

"Clearly, the lavishness is part of the thrill. These are over-the-top Sweet 16s. It's fantasy. People connect to it. It's working," says Diaz.

It's the way most of these fucking spoilt little whores have the worst 'princess' syndrome in the world. It makes my teeth ache.

And some of the parents just need to be shaken frantically back into consiousness to see what they've done to their kids.

I've seen the show quite a few times. It's amusing to watch, but at times I just want to punch some of these kids.

The sad part is I know people like that. A few years ago, a junior at my high school wrecked his new Lexus and his parents bought him another one. Around the same time a senior received a beautiful brand new Mercedes… then she ran it into another car.

Spoiled just seems to be synonymous with today's youth. I must admit I'm spoiled too, but nothing even remotely close to what the kids on My Super Sweet 16 are like. But the problem is the parents aren't any better -- they put up and indulge these children and it's just sad to watch/hear.

I think I know the episode you are talking about. For the record she got an SUV and a convertible that was for the weekend. And its obvious was she needs a big old truck for its so she can have "adventures" in the big old backseat.

The show is so bad its actually funny. Because all the people on it wind up throwing tantrums over nonsense.

I think above mentioned SUV girl had 3 different dresses made up for the party she wore at different points.

I like when they have huge events to give out the invites too where the kid gets on a MEGAPHONE and starts yelling out names of who is to come up and get their tickets.

Another gem is the girl who sees two people making out at her party and she flips out and starts screaming "THIS IS MY PARTY! NO ONE HOOKS UP AT MY PARTY! THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PAYING ATTENTION TO ME!" and she has them thrown out.


The best of like the 5 episodes I've seen is the GUY who has a sweet 16 party. Other then the fact I never heard of a guy having a sweet 16 this guy is just an all around loser. I don't think anyone who went to his party even knew who he was. He gave out tickets by pulling up in front of a bunch of kids hanging out at a park and handing them invitations that came with a free MP3 player. Then when he is about to go in he has his limo driver drive around the block a couple of times because he was "too nervous" and he can't be seen like that.

I don't think anyone who went to his party even knew who he was. I must unfortunately say that I saw that episode, in its entirety at a friend's house. (Apparently, all of my friends who were there watched the show.) When he was finally ready to go into the party, there was too much traffic infront of the rented club for his limo to pull up to the entrance, so he had to "be brave" and walk what couldn't have been more than a block to the party. Oh the hardship. Seriously, I watched about 20 minutes of "House of the Dead" tonight waiting for JLU to come on and found it of greater worth and entertainment then this show.

Well on my 16th we Did fly to New York and had a 3 week long Vacation in the states....

The fact that we fly to the states every year and the fact that it was my Dad's 49th birthday notwithstanding .
I was immensely "spoiled" by my parents giving my an ipod as a birthday present then though (They had bought 2 and decided to give me the second as a birthday present from them and my grandparents).

Still my Sister had a 16th birthday yesterday and While we did make a pool party for her and about 20 of her friends by our houses pool all we did was get some food (Nothing too fancy, lemonade, humus, pita's, sausages, cake and watermelon) and play some music for them.

I do think that a 16th birthday should be an occasion though obviously not anything like what the spoiled brats in the series do.

I will admit that I might be soft, but I'm amazed that my parents managed not to spoil me and my sisters more than very slightly , I don't have any objections to manual labour (Saving the fact that I'm a procrastinator but if it needs doing I'll always do it), I love outdoor hiking and for my car when
I get one I want a small economical car.
I really don't understand people who get a Ferrari, etc' as their first car, It spoils them for life.
My dad has a BMW series 3 with a fully opening roof and improved engines [for example] but I don't want to drive or have it, it's far too good a car as my dad said, it's better to start of with a "humble" but decent car, it's pointless to get a porsche for your first example since it spoils you and you won't appreciate it.

I didn't even HAVE a 16th birthday. I didn't really want one. Not to say I'm not a spoiled little bastard, although I'm not NEARLY as bad as most of the folks around here. I kind of live in a pretty rich neighborhood, and most of the kids at school have cars that were bought for them by their parents.

Although why that makes sense, rather than making sure little snookums knows how fucking drive properly in the first place, I just don't get. I've so far managed driving for more than a quarter century without getting into an accident, it's not an impossible feat.

My saddest/funniest collision on the job as a cab-driver ever was the time the drunken, spoiled little sorority bitch tried to convince me it was my fault after she rear-ended me in the Escalade her Dad bought her, AT A RED LIGHT. Nobody was injured. She could've just paid me for the damage rather than argue with me in the street until the cops noticed, but she was just too stubborn / proud / incapable of accepting responsibility for herself / whatever.
