Graded for yellow belt!
For those of you who know a little bit about me know my involvement in Aikido. Tonight I went through a yellow belt grading from 7 to 9:30pm for the Gracie Jujitsu/kickboxing/clinching hybrid martial art and I passed the test along with 4 others who graded too! I can rest easy tonight...

Again, thanks for the support guys--I appreciate that!
Weemad, I graded for a jujitsu yellow belt and thus, I'm still a white at Aikido. I won't grade for yellow in Aikido unti January or Feb. I have mixed feelings about belts--they motivate you to excel but can mislead at the same time. There are people at my aikido club who have never tested and are still white belts (you would never know that some of these guys have had 5-8 years of kung fu or karate training and a bloody dangerous!).

Not quite. Sorry to disappoint you guys but I don't weigh 600 lbs, hang out with buddies named 'wierd harold'or 'mush-mouth', have a club house at the local junk yard, play the radiator, and go around saying "HEY HEY HEY!"

Each style has a different belt system. Yoshinkan Aikido belts from lowest to highest are as follows: white, yellow, orange, red, green, brown, and black.Andrew J. wrote:Could someone remind me how the belt-ranking scale goes again?
The jujitsu hybrid that I'm taking right now goes: white, yellow, green, blue, red, black.
Okay, thanks.Next of Kin wrote:Each style has a different belt system. Yoshinkan Aikido belts from lowest to highest are as follows: white, yellow, orange, red, green, brown, and black.Andrew J. wrote:Could someone remind me how the belt-ranking scale goes again?

I learned the hard way about the joys of belts in Tae Kwon Do. I was a green belt and feeling quite proud of myself until I was completely destroyed in a tournament. My opponent had the same belt as me but was miles ahead of me in technique and effectiveness, and knew a ton of stuff I didn't. I decided to find out where he trained as I was making no real progress where I was. I soon realized that belts don't have all that much meaning as I was getting ruined by yellow belts at the new place, and I later realized that my old place was a "McDojo".Next of Kin wrote:I have mixed feelings about belts--they motivate you to excel but can mislead at the same time. aerius: I'll vote for you if you sleep with me.
Lusankya: Deal!
Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

Coolness NoK...getting a new grade is always a great picker upper, so good luck on your Yellow Belt.
As for TKD...urgh...McDojo it may have been(which just sucks) but as long as your teacher isn't a relative don't feel too bad(I truly despised my uncle's either run with Bag of rice...some ten pound thing he straps onto you) or fight him for 2 minutes...old korean bastich). And I got up Black Belt...though of recent I would have to go into some serious practice to be what I was.
You realize the bag is a lot more friendlier.

Aerius, you're dead on about being humble because there is always someone better. Neither the aikido or the jujitsu club that I attend are mcdojos and there are some really good people who are intrested in passing on their knowledge at both places, some just wish to advance and look good at your expense--you get that at any club.
My grading last night was a complete surprise--the instructor called the 5 of us into the dojo and informed that we had all obtained are belts during the pre-tests and how we wouldn't be grading tonight if he didn't think we had earned it. For the next 2.5 hours we had to hold on to our belts...the grading was hellish in intensity...he knew we could do the techniques but wanted to see how we would perfom under stress. The 2 who graded for blue belt had a rough go for their belts. One of the drills required that they defend against a four on one attack...little did these guys know that myself and the other attacks had concealed weapons...you had to see the look on their faces when we drew out our knives (replicas) and attacked.

Congrats NoK!
