I'm really torn. I try to avoid double dipping as much as possible. I've still got my old VHS copies of Star Wars and that's it. I want the best possible quality I can get, and know this sure as hell won't be it, but, also am tired of just relying on those old VHS tapes, and even old non-anamorphic laserdisc rips are a step up.Mange the Swede wrote:Robert Harris' comments were interesting. I won't be buying the DVDs either. If they had fixed the problems from the 2004 editions, then I would buy them simply for that, but as that won't be happening coupled with the fact that the unaltered versions are letterbox only... No, I won't pay for the same stuff twice.
Original unaltered trilogy coming to DVD

Amazon has them for $19.99 a piece, instead of the $30 that the USA Today article states.

Yes, that's standard practice--most retailers sell DVDs for an amount lower than the MSRP, and I knew places like Amazon and Best Buy would sell them for that particular price.

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

By the way, The Digital Bits has a new editorial/rant about the subject today, but I'm not going to copy it here or link to it, because he gets really bitchy and indignant when he's allowed to go on for a subject like this for several days uninterupted, and it gets to the point where it's frankly not worth reading much at all until the subject just drops.

It was pointed out in one of the threads over at Home Theater Forum (+http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/sho ... 33&page=12 )that the specs for the 2004 edition (Region 1) seems to have changed. In the original 2004 release, the available audiotracks were English (Dolby 5.1 EX), Spanish and French (the latter two in Dolby 2.0) and subtitles in English only. According to Amazon, the new release has an English audiotrack (Dolby 5.1 EX) only and subtitles in English, French and Spanish. Of course, Amazon could've gotten the pre-release details wrong, but I thought this was interesting. If the specifications indeed have changed, why were they changed? I know that fixed color correction is too much to hope for, but still...JLTucker wrote:Amazon has them for $19.99 a piece, instead of the $30 that the USA Today article states.
