Half Life 2 installation problems

Post by Captain tycho »

So last night I was hankering for some SMOD shotgunning goodness, so I pop my GOTY HL2 disks in and reinstall. All goes well until I reach the point where sounds.gcf is installed. A pop up informs me that it can't find the file and would like me to verify its acessibility. So, clicking retry, it carries on. For another ten minutes on the same damn file, then the retry window pops up again.

Now, my disks are in literally perfect condition, having only been out of the case once. No scratches, nothing. Is something else causing this?

You could always download the files from Steam, instead of installing from disc.

Try manually locating the file on the disc. If it's there, try copying it manually to your hard drive.

If you can do that, try copying the whole disc structure to your hard drive and installing from there, assuming it will let you.

Unless this is some joke I'm missing, he said Half Life 2.

I'm sorry, but when I read that, I just burst out laughing.
