Theories regarding Mara Jade's parentage

Post by JadeOwl »

Mara Jade is my favorite character from the expanded universe, so I am curious as to the identity of her parents. Considering that my knowledge of the EU is extremely limited, I was wondering if anybody around here had any interesting theories, or had noticed any hint. So far, the only theories on the subject that I’ve been able to find are the ones at the Wookieepedia article:
  • She is the daughter of Siri Tachi (with some fans believing Obi-Wan Kenobi to be the father, thus the reason Emperor Palpatine sent her to kill Luke). While this is one of the more popular theories, it is impossible, because Siri Tachi died in 20 BBY, two years before Mara's birth.

She is the youngling Aris-Del Wari, although this would conflict with her established birth date, as Aris-Del was born in 23 BBY, five years before Mara.

She is another descendant of Vima Sunrider, thus explaining her Force powers, long-lasting youthfulness, and red hair.

In the runup to the ending of Star Wars: Republic, some fans theorized she was the child of Quinlan Vos and Khaleen Hentz. This turned out to not be true.

A more unlikely theory is that Mara is either descended from Mira from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords or that Mira was based off Mara. Possible clues pointing to this are the similarities in their names, their red hair, their particularly shady pasts, and their associations with fringe groups.
Since it’s a wiki, I don’t want to take them at face value so I ask you, how plausible are these theories? Which theory is the more plausible? Is there any recent hint that might point in another direction? Do any of you have a theory of your own?

Any assistance you can provide to remedy my ignorance and curiosity will be greatly appreciated. :)

Your post is out of context somewhat. Here is the part you are quoting with the bolded emphasis mine.
Relationships to other characters

Mari Amithest, a character from Attack of the Clones, was so named as an homage to Mara Jade. ("Amithest" being derived from "amethyst", a translucent violet gemstone, just as "Jade" is a translucent green gemstone).

Fan theories abound as to Mara's background and ancestry. The five most common are:
She is the daughter of Siri Tachi (with some fans believing Obi-Wan Kenobi to be the father, thus the reason Emperor Palpatine sent her to kill Luke). While this is one of the more popular theories, it is impossible, because Siri Tachi died in 20 BBY, two years before Mara's birth.

You utterly failed to mention the bolded part of the above passage, and the portion above it that I quoted. Nowhere on Wookipedia is anyone making It is all acknowledged speculation. I notice you are still a Redshirt here, but if you want to post long enough to reach the next ranking you can't continue to say stuff out of context. I've fucked up badly before as well.

Edit:

Lets also not forget that Siri was killed before she ever had a daughter IIRC.

I think you should read my post more carefully. I didn’t at any time claim that these theories were facts. I said that they were the only theories that I had found while looking around. I was actually asking for opinions as to their plausibility.

I didn’t quote the part about Mari Amithest because it doesn’t have anything at all to do with the object of my inquiry. So a character in the movies was named in honor of Mara Jade. What, pray tell, would that have to do with the identity of Mara’s parents?

As for the bolded part, I really didn’t see the need to quote it. It says
Fan theories abound as to Mara's background and ancestry. The five most common are:
I said:

So where is the problem? Nowhere in my post do I claim that these are anything other than just theories. What’s more, I then go on to say:
Since it’s a wiki, I don’t want to take them at face value so I ask you, how plausible are these theories?
So what is the context that is missing from my post? The article says they’re fan theories, I said they were theories from a wiki and therefore not to be trusted implicitly. What is the context that I missed?

You know, considering there is, as far as I know, no reason to assume that Mara has any real relation to any known pre-Empire character, I think it might be best if she was just a normal, if powerful, Force-senstive, born to an average, background couple, and kidnapped by the Emperor simply because she was impressionable and strong int he Force. Simple as that.

There is an unhealthy fascination with making characters related to other characters in the Expanded Universe. Considering that we are talking about a galactic civilization encompassing billions of worlds and well over a quadrillion sapient inhabitants, what are the odds that one particular character who has no established relationship with others would realistically be the offspring thereof? It is an absurdity to assume that she must be related to some already-seen character in the Rise of the Empire era or the Tales of the Jedi era. Why assume a relationship with Vima Sunrider or Miri? Red hair and criminal backgrounds are neither uncommon nor remarkable.

Ulic Qel-Droma had brown hair, could use the Force, and was a Sith Lord; Palpatine of Naboo had brown hair, could use the Force, and was a Sith Lord. Should we therefore assume that they are related?

ZOMG!!!

I think I percieved it that way because you asked how plausible the theories were, and I interpreted that to mean that you were asking how accurate the theories could be. Since none of the theories have any basis in canon material then there is no validity to them whatsoever. I'm sorry if I read you wrong.

My other point about Siri being killed though before having a daughter still stands :D
