DS Wifi troubles

I've had Mario Kart for ages now and despite my best efforts I can't get it to go online. Since Google isn't helping me I figure'd I might try here.

The hardware :

Nintendo DS
Mario Kart DS
Siemens Santis 50 wireless ADSL router
Belgacom ADSL connection

The problem :
----------------

The DS has no problem finding my router. When it tries to "test the settings", it spits out an error code 52000 :

DS wrote:Unable to obtain an IP address. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP settings.

Now, I'm definately in range of the router and DHCP is set to automatic. Even stranger, in the router's DHCP tabel there is a NintendoDS entry with a valid IP (which, for some reason, is set to expire in 2 minutes).

When I manually enter this IP (as well as the DNS servers etc) and try to connect, I get error code 52100 :

DS wrote:Connected to access point but unable to connect to the server. Confirm connection settings and internet availability.

Yet I know I've got an internet connection because I'm using it right now.

I've turned off WEP, association control and the firewall, no change.

I've been told to get a USB adaptor but before I spend €50 I'd like to know if I can get it to play nice with my router instead.

Help ?

I don't have a DS but a friend does and from what I have been able to gather some routers are incompatable with the DS. If you haven't already I suggest you check Nintendo's web site under Wi-Fi and then in the Tech Support pages to see if your router is indeed compatable.

My model's not listed, but other routers of the same brand are all compatible.

You might want to check at a friend's place, or some local WiFi access point, just to make sure it's not a hardware issue with the DS. Those are exceedingly rare, but it's worth checking anyway.

Can it be a hardware problem if the router recognises the DS ? I mean, it's obviously connected to the router itself, if anything I think the problem is there...

EDIT : I forgot, when I first got the DS I accidentally connected through my neighbour's router. That worked fine, though I obviously can't do that again.

I never managed to get my brothers DS to work with the (Bufffalo) wireless hub we have

A pretty obscure one, apparently. It used to be the standard router you got with a Skyet subscription until it went out of production.
