Cry for help: PC GRAW players...
The VIP 2 Is Down mission even with the 1.10 patch has broken objectives for me, not allowing me to cross to the embassy even when I have tried it about 4 times through from the start and with every permutation of objective order killing I could think of, even the suggested "kill everyone in the level" thing didn't do the trick.
So, my request is, if there are any people with the PC version of this game who are past this level (I don't care how far past) can I please get a copy of your save game so I can skip to the embassy savepoint and avoid this fucking problem which is making me want to smash my fucking DVD.

I assume by GRAW you mean Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.
I don't have a save game file, but here's a link to an unlocker utility that grants you access to all of the checkpoints. Hope that helps.

GRIN claimed they fixed that bug with the patch, but they lied.
You have to kill ALL of the enemy troops on the ground before you meet up with the chopper and get resupplied. If you don't, you get mission failure. It requires you to approach the embasy or loose the mission, but leaving behind enemies makes mission failure as well.
Yet more proof how much Grin fucked up the game. This game doesn't deserve to be called Ghost Recon. Its a fucking rail shooter. You can't actualy pick and choose how you attack. The "large" levels still funnel you into specific zones into engagements the designers intended. No large move in any area you like concept like the original.

Thank you! That will save me some grief.
In a related bitch:
What the fuck were they thinking releasing GRAW for PC in that state? I mean, seriously, MP is shite, the AI in SP is awesome, but VERY sporadic in its awesomeness and the coding is unoptimised and not very good to start with (hey, lets build for an NVIDIA rig, so we can't have HDR lighting and FSAA - sheer fucking brilliance guys).

Ubisoft seems intent on killing all the Tom Clancy games. You give Rainbow 6 Lockdown a try? God that game was frightful.
Anyway, I especialy love the complete fucking lack of a quicksave function. You haven't gotten to the final point in VIP2. For fucks sake, I replayed the section 16 fucking times before I could complete it. Thats inexecusable. With quick save I could have saved 2 goddamn days.
Use of checkpoints and forcing people to replay sections a dozen times in a SHITTY way ot increasing a games playtime. I would never consider that part of a games play time.

I always thought quicksaves were a particularly crap way of approaching challenge balance. If you have the ability to repeat every single encounter again and again until you get an outcome you like, a lot of the tension of play dissipates. If you're not going to lose anything, even if it's only fifteen minutes of play investment, by dying, you might as well just stick godmode on, because your death is irrelevant, you just rewind time ten seconds and try again.Alyeska wrote: Anyway, I especialy love the complete fucking lack of a quicksave function. And the flip side is such absurdly designed levels and gameplay where you have to replay a single checkpoint a dozen times and waste HOURS of time on a single point.
Ultimately quick saving is an incredibly useful tool and should never be denied. You don't like it, don't use it.

So the fact that the designers were too stupid to come up with a decent level design makes slapping the quicksave band-aid on it OK? The ability to mask bad level design is not a justification, it's an excuse.
Quicksaves are, as far as I'm concerned, one step away from outright cheating. It's a way of trying not to live with the consequences of your last set of actions. Don't like the fact you got spotted, don't try and adapt to the new situation, just hit quickload! Don't like how much ammo you came out of that fight with? Don't go looking for different tools or ways to approach the next fight, just reload!
I much prefer sensibly placed save points or checkpoints, far enough apart to make reaching one a relief, but not so far apart that you lose the will to try again if you fail.
(I frequently don't use quicksaves, or any manual saves at all unless games have big obvious savepoints, Any game that hasn't gotten me absorbed far enough to forget to press the quicksave button isn't doing it's job properly.)

So you would force YOUR view on others. I am not forcing quick saves onto you. I, however, don't like to have to repeat the same section again and again and again. A game should be designed such that the medium difficulty gets you through without trouble. Some problems happen from time to time or some sections are difficult, so you quicksave often.
It gets even better for people who don't have hours to blow on a game. If checkpoints are aproximately every 20 minutes and someone has 15 minutes to play every day, they are absolutely fucked and can never get past the first level.
You consider quick saving to be cheating. I do not. The best solution is to include quick save and you do not use them. Ultimately ITS MY FUCKING GAME AND I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PLAY HOW THE FUCK I WANT. If I want to cheat and get every single gun in the game, SO FUCKING WHAT!? Who the hell are you to deny me how I want to play the game?

Indeed- this is one of my gripes with the Metal Gear Solid series- the save function only saves your stats and inventory, and if you die and load you start at the beginning of the area you saved in. It's supremely annoying, and there's no load function while you're playing- you die and push continue (which tells against you in the high score) or you push exit and go all the way back to the main menu to load.
This is because Hideo Kojima doesn't like loading the game, so he penalizes people who play like that with as much inconvenience as possible. Well, he can fuck himself. I don't think quicksave is anything close to cheating. It's convenient. I play a game to pull off the best outcome I can, and if that means multiple tries or redoing something I did sloppy, why not?

Jesus, is the 360 version as bugged as this?
I didn't think Lockdown was too bad other than the horrible AI which would ignore you for about 30 seconds after seeing you and then run straight towards you, shooting or just stand still and shoot.Alyeska wrote:Ubisoft seems intent on killing all the Tom Clancy games. [/size][/i]Lockdown was an absolute piece of shit. The levels were absolute rail shooters. You follow a set path with false doors and stupid baricades to keep you on this set path. The previous Rainbow 6 titles had open levels where you could approach the objective any way you wanted.
