I do not like KaZaA...

I do not like KaZaA...
I spent the whole day downloading the first episode of Excel Saga, and now that I've got it, it just has sound. No video.
Ooooh, something is gonna die...
There any chance that someone here could help? The file is a .avi, whatever the hell that means...

It's not Kazaa's fault, though you could try getting Kazaa Lite, which is better.
It's just that the file you downloaded doesn't have sound on it. Check out the descriptions of each file before downloading.
Also, Excel Saga is very well shared on Kazaa. There are numerous files with sound and good visual quality. You just have to know which are the good ones.

Uh, no, I have the exact opposite problem. I have sound, plenty of sound, more sound than I know what to do with. I don't have any video.Shinova wrote:

Sorry about the sound/video mixup. Didn't read the post correctly.
Anyway, avi is one of the most common and standard movie file formats. Basically, all the high-length movies on the internet are avi quality, and they're usually made that way with divx as well.
Which reminds me, I think the problem may be that you don't have a divx codec installed. Get divx.

You are dead wrong there, Shinova. Avi files do not work properly if they are encoded with some special codecs such as divX.Shinova wrote:And avis should work with standard Windows installations, no additional codecs or anything.
Andrew, as others said, you just need a proper codec. Don't delete the file. I can personally recommend downloading the Nimo codec pack. For me it has solved all my problems with video files. You can find it from here:

You should also use KaZaa-lite instead of the regular KaZaa which is loaded with spyware. Lite seems to also work better on my PC. Here's teh add for KaZaa-lite:

I realized that and posted so on the post two posts before this one.Oberleutnant wrote:You are dead wrong there, Shinova. ...but why? If you have ISDN or anything above that, then KaZaa-Lite is the program that you should always keep on. I've downloaded about 40 Babylon 5 episodes and dozens of movies with that thing! I have never had any problems.

Why? Revenge! That file-sharing program screwed me, and now I'll never use one again! How do you like it now, eh KaZaA? AHAHAHAHAHA!Oberleutnant wrote:...but why? I found that RealOne player can decode AVIs that WMP can't since it apparently has better codec support.
As for Excel Saga, there ARE DVDs out here. I have volumes 1 and 2.

They're a bit pricey, but worth it. The Excel Saga bootlegs I got were unwatchable since there was only one language (Japanese) and the subtitles were horribly, horribly timed.

OK, I'm just going to go ahead and explain. Most of the .avi files on KaZaA, or Gnutella for that matter, are encoded with the DivX;) codec. Do a search for "Nimo Codec Pack" on Google; it has the most common codecs you'll encounter on the Internet.
