If you watch the video on that pages it tells us some more info. For example, there were actually 5 attackers, one of them had some brass knuckles, and apparently the guy tried to run first, but then realized he couldn't get away and had to fight.

And all the attackers were 17 except for a kid that was 16.

So, they jump out of the car, wave some guns, he bolts, then realizes he's trapped. He pulls out a knife and then dispenses some major ass-kicking.

Also, it's quite possible that the attackers were involved in a lot of robberies around the area.

EDIT: I have to say... after reading the title of this thread, "Marine brings knife to gunfight, wins", I immediately thought "Well duh!"

Semper Fi, short for Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful), is the motto of the U.S. Marine core.

Knife wasn't quoting the Rock, the Rock was quoting the marines.

Semper Fi is the motto of the US Marine core, but "Semper Fi, motherfuckers." isn't. It's probably coincidence more than anything, but I imagine that's what Molyneux was referring to.

Update, his personal information:

Name : THOMAS C AUTRY
Service : MARINE CORPS
Service Component : REGULAR
Pay Grade : E-4
Military Specialty : 3381
Home of Record : Unknown

His paygrade is his rank. An E-4 corresponds to a Sargeant. The second number is his MOS code:

MOS 3381, Food Service Specialist

Yeah. That's right. He was a fucking marine cook. That's just how hardcore the Corp is.

Other information: it was initially believed that the girl who died was two weeks pregnant at the time. However, an autopsy proved that she was not.

Here's how it went down as far as I've heard:

They started chasing poor Mr. Autry, wielding their shotgun and pistol. He tried to escape them on foot, but he was slowed down while attempting to retrieve his pocketknife from his backpack while running. He yelled "Fire!" repeatedly while running in order to get help, but the muggers caught up to him. After kicking the shotgun out of the nearest one's hand, two more attackers tackled him. That is when he stabbed both of them. Another mugger tried to use his handgun, but it misfired. At that point all of the muggers decided to bail and retreated to their Cadillac.

So he's not exactly Brock Sampson, but he is still one bad-ass motherfucker. 8)
Why wonder why? The answer is simple: obviously, someone somewhere decided that he or she needed Baby Jesus up the ass.

The first image that came to my mind upon reading the story was that scene from V for Vendetta the movie where V killed that squad of SWAT troopers with his daggers.

It appears that the Marine did everything he could to prevent a bloodshed - he tried to run away and fought only as a last resort. The fact that he fight back with any efficiency speaks volumes about his resolve and nerves and about his training.

Well it's nice to hear some good news relating to marines. Luckily for this ex-marine, criminials use shit guns in poor repair, otherwise that pistol probebly wouldn't have misfired. Still, he is still a badass for disarming that guy with the shotgun and winning a two on one in hand to hand combat.

I hope that girl had a painful death at the hands of his knife.

Maybe we should turn the Marines loose on all these criminals?

That'd just be cruel. Gurkhas are fucking scary. I've heard stories of them going down the lines in Korea and slitting the throats of any non-UN personnel they found.
According to a friend's relative:
Ghurka Mission Briefing wrote:"Alright once we cross over we'll be dropping you guys at 100ft..."

"Would it be possible to do the drop at 50ft?"

"Why do you want to be dropped at 50ft? Your chutes wouldn't open."

"Wait, we get parachutes? Well in that case we'll drop from whatever height you like."

I believe a 'Fucking owned!' is appropriate there. The idea of this bunch of shitstains getting their asses handed to them by a cook of all things is just too beautiful for words.

If Steven Seagal movies have taught me anything, it's that cooks are the baddest motherfuckers around. :)

Great story, just goes to show, the person looking for a fight is never as tough as the person ready for one.

Had this guy been a SEAL,Ranger, SAS, or a Beret, it would have been 4 deaths, so the assailants should look on the bright side.

On the Ghurka note, played a little with some Turkish mountain boys, had it been one of them, the muggers would not have lived, period. But then again, that's just a Saturday night for those boys. Another ground you probably would not want to try this with are the South Korean water dogs.

A military cook, that would explain the knife-fu. Besides, everyone knows military cooks are badasses, just look at Under Seige

Nah, it's the Navy's cooks, apparently, after gulfing at the hotel in Vietnam (if you know, you know) they felt it was good to have killer cooks on the flagships in case of terrorist attacks or too many complaints about the eggs

If it had been anyone of those, I doubt the result would be any different.

Ah priceless. And what's the lesson here? Don't fuck with random strangers, you can never tell when their balls will be bigger than yours. Ah once again, priceless. Send this cook down under, we got plenty of shitheads, he can thin out their numbers.
