I am toying with my 14-day trial. But for one, as I'm not at home through the week, I have to live with a shitty WLAN connection, and work reduces the amount of playing to 4 hours a day max. Might not be enough...

About the snipers in low sec, I was going to say that in all my playing experience in Eve I've never been sniped by a pirate in low sec (not that i've been a lot in lowsec but anyway).

I was going tosay that, because my +3 implants, no clone alt just got podded in a 0.4 system :(

My sincerest condolences for your loss. I don't use implants for precicely this reason. Hope you can get another set.

I'm currently mission running for Rhodan Shipyards, so its mostly courier stuff. Hence, I'm using a ship with a microwarpdrive, lows filled with nanofiber hull upgrades, and three large shield extenders. It survived one sniping BS, but I saw a camp where there were THREE.

EVE online is currently how i spend most of my free gaming time (IT ROCKS!) its got one of the best MMO communitys (in my opinion) and has a solid backstory and customizability to the game. My advice to EVE is to join another player corp as soon as possible, even if its a mining corp, EVE is most fun when played in groups, and some of the larger fleet battles(aka blob warfare) are insanely huge (ex. the infamous blob invasion 600 or so coalition of Bob/ASCN/AXE and others against the 400 or so man fleet that the G/Iron Alliances fielded)
ASCN for the win!

I actually took part in many of these operations. The fleet fights and POS killing during the G invasion were some of the most fun I've had in game. The EC-P8R operation was insanely boring though.

EVE is a somewhat hard game to start in. And the game only really gets fun IMHO when you join a 0.0 alliance. It does however have some glaring balance issues, and griefers galore. If anyone wants to do a 14 day free trial, let me know and I will get you one.

And wautd GHSC = Guiding Hand Social Club. Surely you remember this?

For those who don't play, GHSC is one of many corporations ingame. Their speciality is infiltration and long term subterfuge. In the aforementioned "heist" the members spent somewhere around a year infiltrating another corporartion, then proceeded to rob them blind and destroy one of the most valuble ships in game, an Amarr Navy Apocalypse (which requires a GREAT amount of grinding to obtain). PC Gamer did an article on them not too long ago and determined that the amount of ingame assets stolen/destroyed came to roughly $16,000 or so in real life money (using IGE prices).

A few good articles on it are thisand this.

Damn 14-day trial. I just saw one of those banner ads myself, and I'm bored etc. Now I know not to try it, because I'll end up playing it forever! :)

PS where's the 'upgrade to proper account' thing? Poking on the internet tells me that it costs US$15 a month, but the eve-online site itself is pretty unhelpful. It seems neat, but I'd just want a month or two first to mess about: where do you manage all that stuff?

go to "'my acount" (somewhere on the left) to change subscription stuff. The "Change Subscription Interval" is probably what you need

Here's an interesting article about EVE Online, so you know what you're getting into. Essencially it's about someone who stole 30 billiion ISK from a corporation (think guild) which, if sold for RL cash, would come out to around $16,500.

The most attractive part of the game is the 'if you lose shit because you're stupid, we don't care' attitude of the devs. None of this 'stop cheating', 'don't rip people off' rubbish: it's bloody capitalism! :)

Heh, yeah. I used to play that game. I was actually pretty good at it, as a criminal. Stealing dropped cargo, looting good stuff from the edge of battles, I managed to embezzle over 1 million credits from a rival guild once and got away with it. Good times.

I ended up quitting though because I found the slow advancment of skills to be a major pain in the ass. If I can afford a heavy mining barge thanks to my being a snarky bastard, I should be able to pilot one without having to wait two weeks first.
