Ok, I have to dismiss myself from posting here too much for now. I have "attack" videos to finish.

Oh, and if anyone's going to this year's "San Diego Comic-Con", would you stop by Traviss' table and say "Hi" for me?

Actually, it will be more interesting if someone slipped by and left her a note: "The Talifans sends their greetings" and then have a few signatures on it.

Then someone should take a video of her response.

Bryan Lambert: You are bad nerds for debating the clone numbers for eight months. Give it up [and get a life].

(Implied: play with toys, dress up in costumes, worship MST3K and you are good nerds)

SDN: Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid people.

Now, I don't know about you, but I would say that fighting stupidity, in any form, have no limits in time or space. Apparently Bryan agrees with this, the only problem is that he thinks that his way is the only right way, while at the same time being completely blind to his own blatant position in taking a hobby too far. Bryan's writings about Wayne Poe's website gives a frightening look into his own mind, because he's clearly projecting his own fantasies.

I'm not surprised that Robbie (Darkstar) has taken an interest in this. I was tempted to send his URL to Bryan for a REAL example of a "bad nerd". I didn't expect DarkMoose to enter, but hey, he's showing his colors. Brown.

McEwok, DarkMoose, Lambert, and a good many others on tf.net and sw.com all show a distinct lack of scientific aptitude and understanding of the methods we apply, but that clearly doesn't stop them from having very strong convictions about the righteousness in their own (anti-science and minimalistic) beliefs. It's almost religious in its massive foundation in superstition. Or more eloquently put, they are the style over substance militia brigade. The "gibbering horde" of yes-sayers follow them around, a few very messed up souls which follows what Simon Says.

In so many words; they don't understand us, and they are not able to, not willing to, or more likely, both. This is probably never going to change. But we can continue to fight the good fight, and I admire those here that have managed to devote a lot of time for it, or even taking an enjoyment in debating these stubborn fools. You really have to be emotionally detached from the subject in order to enjoy anything these guys say.

Darkstar is different from them. He's "one of us" in that he understands the methods and results, but he's working for the dark side, ie, stupidity, defined by me here as willful and stubborn ignorance. While they can be described as "the enemy", Robbie is a traitor, in that sense. He lies, distorts, use selective truths, anything necessary to make his own case look good for the ignorant, and of course, he's completely unable to admit a mistake, which is a hallmark of never having really grown up. I apologize to the staff for this lenghty discussion of Darkstar and I hope it won't detract the thread, but I felt it was warranted in this case; just say the word and it's gone.

Tune in next week for the new chapter of the Geeks vs Nerds War, same time, same place, same Nerd-channel. Because singlemindedness, stupidity, and fanatic belief in irrelevant superstition is as old as humanity itself. Thank goodness for the renaissance. End Rant.

I think you're overthinking this. This is nothing more than the loser demographic. These are the guys who were never cool enough in high school to be part of the tough-guy crowd or the jock crowd, but they weren't smart enough to be at the top of the class either. So they simultaneously resent both the cool people (who laugh at their geeky activities) and the smart people (who will only participate in their geeky activities in an annoyingly superior "smart person" way, by spouting all kinds of engineering and historical and military concepts that the losers can't understand and therefore resent).

Frankly I'd go as far as saying that their geekness is so hardcore and almost fetishistic that they can't even belong to the more mainstream geek circles in high school (drama people, band geeks, orchestra, photography, school newspaper, yearbook committee, etc...) They just sit by themselves and bitterly fester towards all with resentment.

This went from annoying, to funny, to depressing. What did he even think was going to happen when he called people nerds, after he put pictures of himself dressed in various sci-fi costumes on the internet? He probably thinks that if he calls other people nerds, he'll look like less a nerd himself.

Anyway, the EU has almost always been crap(judging from the books that I've read, there might be some good ones out there), and it's going to get worse. There are way too many nerds out there, like Lambert, who will buy anything that says "Star Wars" on the cover. I think that most of the Authors have figured out that all you need to do is look towards the action figure people and you're set.

Hell, one of his sycophants at YAD practically admits this:
Some guy at YAD wrote:Part of the point of the Be a Better Nerd series is, at least as I see it, that we here on WAND are all nerds and need unsubtle humorous reminders of what going too far is and examples of over-the-top nerdiness that will make us feel better about ourselves. I guess Brian's posts about these topics succeed in making us realize that we don't do the things that some of (or at least one of) the Star Wars fans at another site do. Thanks again poster. You made me realize that I am not a big enough mouthbreather to make a revenge video to a writer.
Isn't admitting that you need to make fun of others to feel better about yourself not a very smart thing to do, especially when you're in an argument?

Quite possibly. I didn't mean it to be a rant, but after a while I got into that mode. Still, they share common exhibits....

Bryan, if you are still reading this, I would ask you to do one thing, and one thing only. Self-analysis. Thank you.

Apparently, their idea of "building a better nerd" is to increase the "dork" factor, and reduce the "bookworm" factor. My thinking is the exact opposite.

If one is judged by the company he keeps, then you can also judge based on who rejects him. If this array of dweebs defines themselves by being our opposites, then I for one am proud to wear the badge "Talifan".

I just like how DarkStar thinks we're getting famous by being featured on a board with 140 members, essentially none of whom are active.

Indeed, you could tell how small an operation Pajama Boy is running when he mentioned digging through his logfiles looking for referers, and the way he even admits that he's gone running around to dozens of forums to sign up the instant someone mentions his name. My name has been bandied about in countless places all over the Internet since long before his board existed, and I've never signed up on dozens of web forums.

Yeah guys, you are overthinking this. Darkstar is nothing more than an ex-girlfriend that runs by your house at night screaming at your window because you're not paying attention to her anymore.

Troupe de Traviss?

Troika of Tripe?

Or just The 3 Million Minions of Traviss the Hutt...

Interesting if DorkStar betrays his Trektard ways to ally himself with fgellow Warsies --no matter how erroneous or misguided they may be-- just to "stick it" to SDN.

Not yet, and I wouldn't worry about it even if they did. I was just kidding about that "Legion of Dumb" stuff, hence the smiley. As of right now, it's just a bunch of "me too" chiming in, probably based on some twisted application of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

It's more a case of Traviss having quickly figured out that losers can be easily recruited because they're desperate for approval.

He probably wants to know whether she'll freak out and call the police. After all, she's already saying that we're the equivalent of the Taliban. Surely we must be very fanatical and dangerous folk.

Hmm, KT has posted over at YAD (although not in response to the latest editorials but in response to this +http://www.youaredumb.net/archive/2006/05/5), and she has other "creative" names for detractors (a.o. Jedi jihaads).

The irony of using made-up Star Wars 'bad names' to insult people is hilarious. Is it *that* hard to type 'person who disagrees with me' or 'my detractors' or even 'those idiots'? What's with this pet name bullshit?

Not yet, no! I've used my vacation time for most of this year. I won't have time to go down do San Diego this time.

Isn't it funny how this attention whore tries to ally herself with R.A. Salvatore who allegedly received death threats for "killing Chewie" in Vector Prime? I've never seen any post anywhere even hinting at bodily harm to her. Yet she attempts to lump "Talifans" in that same category.

BTW, the Talifans that pissed off Kevin J Anderson because he wrote Dune novels even shittier than he writes Star Wars novels, snatched up "Talifan" related domains!
