FFV ...
If you've been following the Marcon Thread in Artwork, you know that I'm making costumes for Nit, Tev, White Haven and myself for the next Marcon; we're going as White, Black, Red and Blue Mages from FFV. Since I've never played any of the FF series, I thought maybe I should dig up a ROM of FFV, since that's the version I'm basing the costumes on. The only FFV ROM I've found so far is one that's in Japanese... not that I'm complaining, but I figure I might need to know what's going on as I play
Any suggestions?

FFV was never released in the U.S., so you won't find an English ROM. You can, however, find a translation patch for the ROM you've got.

Here's a translation patch. Note: I'm linking to the patch only, not to any ROMs.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

Isn't it being ported to the GBA?Arthur_Tuxedo wrote:FFV was never released in the U.S., so you won't find an English ROM. You can, however, find a translation patch for the ROM you've got.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

There were niether red nor blue mages in FFT, and the ones in Tactics Advance weren't exactly archetypical either. Furthermore, there isn't really a clear and consistent blue mage archetype like there is for the other three classes. The blue mage didn't even exist until FFV and they have been vastly different in every game since.
Gau, Strago, Quistis and Quina can be argued to be blue mages, but they don't exactly dress the part. The BLUs in Tactics Advance look oddly 16th Century (ironically, the female-only viera red mages don't) while the most recent game to incorporate them (FFXI) has them looking Near Eastern.

Point. I forgot about the blues not being in 3. I knew they weren't in Tactics, but the artwork for some of the other classes could be used as a decent baseline. Mostly I was worried about the archetypal look of the other classes being overwhelmed by the specific characters in 5. But, is no big deal.
