Yaaaay! Bab-tech is one of my favorite B5 sites, and I have deeply regretted its virtual absence from the internet for some time.Ted C wrote:Brian has updated the Vorlons section of http://www.babtech-onthe.net

Ender,
You are probably not running Quicktime 6. Download the free Quicktime 6, and you should be able to view all of the clips.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but QT6 offers better compression than older versions (MPEG-4).

Out of curiosity, why did you drop the bit about how much energy the vorlon fighter absorbed from the blast? It would fit with the thunderbolt shooting it down based on the explanation of Vorlon shields.

The guide to "Babylon 5: Season 4" states that the VPK is 15 miles long. Does this outweigh Marcus's comment in "The Summoning"? If so, how does one explain Marcus's "slip of the tongue"? Would this back up the visual evidence more consistently? Where would this book rank in the canon hierarchy?

Sorry, I can't back it up. It's just from memory. You won't even find it on the sample pages on Amazon (it only goes up to "The Summoning", and the quote is from the synopsis of "Falling Toward Apotheosis" if I recall correctly).Connor MacLeod wrote:Do you have a quote of that? From memory...
IMO, this is what is wrong with most debaters in Babylon 5 issues - bad memory. Just the other day I had to point out to someone that a comic book clipping that showed Ivanova telling someone that 10,000 Vorlons ships were at Coriana 6 didn't mean that EACH VPK had 10,000 escort ships. Wishful thinking and bad memory working together. Lennier said that this is the "bulk of the Vorlon fleet."
That is why Babtech uses so much multimedia. Babylon 5 debaters cannot seem to remember what happened in the series. Examples include survivors on the ground after VPK attacks, Ivanova's 200 megawatt pulse cannon, Sheridan walking around on a planet a week after the SPK attack, etc. So I digitise images, video, and audio files to use as evidence. For some reason, many people still look at the videos and can't see the Black Star's destruction, Earth fighters destroying Vorlon fighters, etc. That is why I call these people fanatics. They can look at something black and white and see purple instead.

So Brian, why aren't the EA and Bab 5 sections working?

I'd really reccomend DivX above Quicktime, which I frankly think is a piece of trash.Brian Young wrote:Ender,

I like Divx too. But for what I use video for at Babtech, Quicktime is superior.
*Both are MPEG-4 compression, and similar performance
*Quicktime offers better audio compression than anything I can think of that can be used in an AVI file.
*Readers can pause, frame forward and backward, etc. just by using the spacebar and arrow keys.
*Streaming.
I have some B5 episodes and Star Wars movies archived on CDR in Divx 5.0.2, and I use Virtualdub to count frames, extract frames, etc. I often extract scenes from those discs, decompress, and recompress in Quicktime. Virtualdub is the best video processing tool there is. But it is unrealistic to expect fans to use Virtualdub, or know how to use it. And I can't spend much time teaching them how to use it.
So I use Quicktime, which allows similar video compression (not quite as good), better audio compression, streaming, and close analysis by just using the spacebar and arrow keys. That is easy to teach.

Well, thats the reason I don't like Quicktime, the player I find is horrid and unstable, it's the only thing on my system thats consistently unstable.
And for the record I do use VirtualDub extensively, which is why I prefer DIVX files.
If I wouldn't have to use the actual QT Player to play quicktime movies, I'd be content.
