RF Online

Post by Dorsk 81 »

Is anyone playing RF Online? There's a 10 day trial going at the moment on FilePlanet. It seems pretty good, much better graphics than WoW. I've only got a level 14 toon so far, but I'm pretty impressed with it. Anyone else with a higher level able to give their impressions?

I'm trying it out, and frankly, I'm unimpressed. First off, better graphics than WoW? Not really. Sure, it has some shiny aspects, but it's effectively hollow. There are expanses of terrain with NOTHING THERE.

The movement system is massively irritating. Yeah, let's make a game where the only way to move is by clicking constantly. I'd like to shoot whoever thought up of that one.

The tutorial is utterly worthless. Yeah, I really want to spend three minutes learning how to ROTATE THE FUCKING CAMERA, and not, you know, learn something useful, like how to upgrade weapons, make weapons, ammo, armor, or other game-critical things.

The questing system is nice, in that you don't need to run across the world to meet the contact, run across the world again to get to the mission, then run back to get your reward. The tall elves have the hilarous benefit of the primary quest-giver looking like she's being fucked rotten off camera. Seriously, what's up with that.

On the other hand, they give you NO FUCKING CLUE as to WHERE to go to complete the quests, and they are all fucking "Kill X" missions. What the fuck? Can we have just a little creativity? Maybe an actual storyline?

Also, there are supposed to be giant robots. I'm 16 levels in, and not a single giant robot has graced my eyes. Oh yeah, and the mining reward I got a while ago, I tried to teleport to the mine and died in a fraction of a second. Real nice.

I don't know what kind of retarded monkeys made this game, but it really irritates me. Combat is pretty much auto-attack, chug potion, throw special, auto-attack, chug potion, repeat. This is possibly the first game I've seen where warriors, in order to survive, must chug health potions like candy. I've had runs where I've burned through four hundred 500HP potions.

Also, other players are TOTAL DICKS. They will train mobs on you, steal your loot if you're swamped with 2+ mobs, and extremely high level characters will sit in newb zones and slaughter mobs you need for quests.

I'm really glad that MMOs have trials. It lets me be disappointed without spending a damn dime.

I played it during the Beta and this sums up my experiences almost exactly. I played it for roughly a week and then quickly went back to EVE.

The game is simply put, trash. Hotfoot has the right of it, only he wasn't harsh enough.

Ugh, tried this game yesterday infact. Piece of crap, all the above mentioned reasons. The whole game seems to focus on grinding levels. Boring as... wait maybe there isn't anything quite this boring.

On another note Acidburns has the right idea, the art's cool especially the picture of the big mech guy with the cape. Pity about the product. I think I'll stick to GW.
