Two "New Essential Guides" to be released

Post by apocolypse »

I don't recall seeing this posted yet, but I just noticed that there are two more EGs on the way. They're redoing the "Droids" one, as well as the "Alien Species". Not sure what to think yet, as the EGs have been decent in some areas while severly lacking in others. (8 KM Executors and rediculously short ranged TLs comes to mind) However, the NEC showed some improvement overall with a couple of lapses, and Dan Wallace is doing the Droids one, so maybe there's hope for these two. The links in case you're curious.

I'll probably get them because, even with the discrepnacies, I can use them to write my fanfics. I just need to verify what I read in the book before using it. I have specifically waiting for the Droids one ever since they started the New Essential Guides four years ago.

They should make an Essential Guide to the Imperial Army and Navy instead of these already done books.

I concure

but also, I think they chnaged them. I have the essential guide to droids, and when I saw the new one out, I looked through it, and It looked different.
as in, things I didn't remeber were in there.

Each of the new Essential Guides has new content. Backstories on some entries are changed to match what has been given in the EU. New entries are added for stuff that we are only now seeing. These aren't the guides that came out before. They're updated.

Aside from collecting, is there really point in buying these fan-exploiting reference books when you have online databases such as Wookieepedia?

In my case, I know that it's really nice to be able to site down and thumb through them. I know it's odd, but I don't spend my entire life on the computer (although there was once a time...).

So basically, no. Fanfiction-level fluff is a dubious drawcard. I've READ that droids one - maybe an older one, cause this book was OLD - and it was appalling. I could write better worthless shit on the toilet.

Anything, but that. Given our past experiences. they'll only screw it up.

The only person I'd trust with such a project would be DK, and then only if Dr. Saxton was writing or consulting on it. Can you imagine the horror such a project would spawn with in the curent LFL enviroment.

Personally I'm done buying ANY EU and reference stuff.

I think any one buy DelRey should get the job, and I'm sick and tired of stupid authors like Traviss.

I also support the idea that DK should be the only publisher for Star Wars reference materials.

Hell, even before the New EGs, all Del Rey has published is just retreads and compilations of information.

Absence of golden mean fallacy, absence of fanon paraded as fact, and absence of irrelevent blowhards pretending they speak for LFL?

That and the blatant lies of some clearly insane fanboys.
