Andromeda what if?

Post by goten »

What if two wormholes opened in to the heart of the Commonwealth, and three ships emerged from each one. From the first a Federation Sovereign, Defiant, and Akira emerge a little shaken but other wise in perfect condition. The second is a band of rebelling Imperial Star destroyers three in all. (Time frame during Return of the Jedi.) The two groups are close to a High Guard outpost, after some tense negotiations an alliance if formed. All this is 20 years before the Andromeda Ascendant was built. What up grades would we see when the Andromeda was put in to service?

Assuming they someone manage to reverse engineer each others tech and supply with one power source , say hypermatter since SW seems to have the highest power output, I would say the ship ideally should combine aspects of the tech which are better.

Scanners

I think SW is supposed to be better. Also FTL sensors from Trek and Wars would help. I would incorporate also subspace sensors from Trek just so I can detect subspace phenomena ( you never know when another Trek race would just pop up now).

Power source

Normally I would say hypermatter. Isn't hypermatter just matter with imaginary mass? (however that one works). What is the effeciency of hypermatter annihilations vs say antimatter ones (under Andromeda and Trek technology). Could we have a hyper-antimatter reaction.

FTL

Use Slipstream for long distance strategic (ie war fare between galaxies) and SW hyperspace for jumps and short distances and regions where slipstream doesn't work too well

Shields

Use SW shields. If this is post Nemesis, (where the AQ are aware of how the Scimitar has the dual phase shielding - which I assume he has a second shield underneath the first one to spread out the damage), then they could incorporate this design in.

Structural integrity fields might also had an extra layer underneath the armour.

Armour

SW armour, unless you can combine SW with Commonwealth tech to make some uber armour. The "Batmobile" armour of Voyager might be useful as an extra layer once the shields have been breached. This is assuming they could replicate SW armour. If they can't, the Voyager armour might allow a few more hits against some of the lesser Andromedaverse powers. It may not be worth the effort to install.

Energy weapons

Turbolasers. Now Andromeda verse engagements are taken at light minutes, so turbo lasers might be a bit limited. The other idea I have is to use Trek transporters and boost the range by beaming the turbolaser bolt. Especially if (and doubtful) they could make Dominion subspace transporters (the Federation obviously manage to make defenses against it and did have a captured Dominion ship to research).

I have another idea, although I am not so sure how effective it would be. Assuming you could make phasers which won't burn up with SW energy levels. Would turbophasers be more effective than a turbolaser with equivalent yield due to the NDF effect? We know phasers are material dependent, but given that ships can be NDF, it may just be a matter of more power. Even if its of limited utility against metallic ships, it would have some use against organic ships (not that I can remember an organic ship in the Andromeda verse)

Missiles

This is a no brainer. Use proton torpedoes (those ones modified to engage Star Destroyers) and adjust High Guard technology which can churn out shitloads of missiles. You not only have the high yield of the protons, but also the kinetic energy from High Guard torps. The other thing is, and this is wanking a little bit (using the non-canon DS9 manual, where it states quantum torpedoes use ZPE), can we construct a proton torpedo which enhances its yield with ZPE.

Point defense lasers

Use which ever universe has the better one. I don't know too much about SW point defense systems and Treks is virtually non-existent unless you allow them the use of phasers.

Jamming

Combine High guard with SW jamming. Nuff said.

Transporters

Limited utility. However may come in handy when loading up the ship.

Cloaking device

If this is the defiant with the cloaking, we get a cloaking device to study. If not, presumably the Federation could come up with one if it wasn't for the treaty of algernon (In Pegasus, they did despite said treaty). So without the treaty applying here, a cloaking device may be useful. It would most probably be best used for a ship to hide if badly damaged or spying missions (for slip fighters with build in warp drives). I can't envisage entire fleets moving under cloak, as it most probably won't make the ship invisible while in hyperdrive or slip stream. We would need to add warp drive onto of the other FTL methodologies just to make this useful.

Oh, and high guard ships can use interaction with gravity to detect things. So a phase cloak ship would have to hide inside an asteroid to mask his mass in the asteroids. As I said, limited utility.

WMDs

Nova Bombs

Warp capable missiles - Essentially slightly bigger than slipfighters loaded with lots of explosive goodness. Can be used in ship to ship combat without fear of damaging yourself (given the distances Andromedaverse ships engage in) or also as a WMD in warp range. Given the fact that Andromeda has no FTL sensors, this will be invisible to ships.

Side notes

I would have thought the style of the high guard ship would still look like the Glorious heritage class type. I see it as a design based on cultural aesthetics rather than military efficiency, which I don't think will change in this new time line. And to note, they will most likely not incorporate a saucer section.

No fucking holodecks in ships. I can imagine them in stations as training things, but these things are likely to generate sentient programs which then proceed an attempted coup. No thank you

Another note - thats enough wanking for today.
Never apologise for being a geek, because they won't apologise to you for being an arsehole. John Barrowman - 22 June 2014 Perth Supernova.

Transporters,
FTL sensors & communications,
Tactical warp speed, capital ships and fighters,
Hyperdrives,
The common wealth would have limitless supplies of battle droids with high guard AIs,
High Guard cold plasma armor, with Federation ablative armor, and structural integrity field
Star wars heavy turbo lasers, proton torpedoes, & concussion missiles.
Federation type-XII phaser arrays, quantum, proton torpedoes.
High Guard kinetic kill missiles, Nova bombs
All torpedoes & missiles fire at a rate of 6 per sec from all tubes
Cloaking devise,
Imperial hull conforming Shields with Federation auto-regenerative tri-layered shielding.
And many other party favors that would be a great help at the battle of witchhead, & Vs the Maggog.
