Favorite Star Wars score or part of score..

I absolutely love the first minute of the Throne Room in A New Hope. With the horns blaring and the instruments sharply playing in the background.

In no particular order:

"Final Duel" from ROTJ.
The fanfare when Palpatine arrives during ROTJ.
The ROTJ opening, with Vader's shuttle arriving at the DS II.
"Padme's Ruminations" from ROTS.
"Battle of the Heroes" from ROTS.
"Anakin's Betrayal" from ROTS.
The ROTS ending credits.
"Rescue from Cloud City" from TESB.
"The Asteroid Field" from TESB.
"Clash of Lightsabers" from TESB.
The beginning of "The Battle of Hoth" from TESB.
"Duel of the Fates" from TPM.
"Qui-Gon's Noble End" from TPM.
"The Droid Invasion" from TPM.
The Rebel fanfare from ANH.

Notice there's nothing from AOTC on this list; I felt that had probably the most disappointing score of any Star Wars movie, with far too much recycled music and far too many scenes with no music at all. Fortunately, TPM and ROTS more than made up for it.

Again, in no order.

"Padme's Ruminations" from ROTS.
"Battle of the Heroes" from ROTS.
"Anakin's Betrayal" from ROTS.
"Anakin's Dark Deeds" from ROTS.
"Anakin VS Obiwan" again, ROTS.

Dual of Fates, all the Endor battle scores, The assasin chase in AOTC, Anakin and Sebulba in TPM. Imperial march. Not alot of stuff I like in ANH or ESB.

I thought that AOTC had the best rendition of the Imperial March, IMHO. (2:59 into "Confrontation with Count Dooku").

My other favorites are:
  • The film version of "Battle of the Heroes". (I prefer it over the shortened CD version)
  • The que when the IH is re-entering Coruscant ("Good Triumphs Over Evil: The Tide Turns/The Death Of Darth Maul" from the TPM two-disc set)
  • The Battle of Yavin.
  • Palpatine arriving on the DS2
  • ROTJ SE Ending Music
  • The que when Luke furiously attacks Vader in ROTJ after Vader finds out about Leia(5:00 - 6:50 on "The Battle of Endor II" on the ROTJ SE CD)

"Battle of the Heroes" ROTS

It just fits in perfectly with the story and the cinematography

Battle of Endor I, ROTJ.

This one just always manages to get me tingly. The fleet battle, the rising crecendo, it all just comes together.

I like the music that plays while Anakin and Obi-Wan fight in RotS, and of course, we can't possibly forget the Imperial March.

Let's see, first the Imperial March, because being evil is just plane cool. Next would be Duel of the Fates, because being evil and dark is cool too. And third would be the various Rebel action themes, because being good but still sticking it to the man also has coolness points.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Imperial March Espessially if it's played by Metallica.. but the original is great as well.

In fact all of the ESB music is great .

Agreed. Until ROTS arrived on the scene, my opinion was that ESB had the best score of the series by far. I'd recommend that anyone who doesn't fully appreciate ESB's soundtrack listen to "Rescue from Cloud City" starting at around 3:22, or "Carbon Freeze" (which I forgot to mention in my first post) starting at 1:30.

The music taken as a whole is my favourite. Cop out? Perhaps. But the point of the music is that it in itself can tell the story. Star Wars wouldn't be Star Wars without the kind of music that got played.

Just to be different though I'll say the Cantina music (both pieces) because nobody has mentioned them. :P Also, the Battle of Yavin is hardcore.

The Imperial March. The defining point of Star Wars, it's memorable villains, are and always shall be Darth Vader and the Empire, and this song is their theme song.

My favorite tracks are definitely from the end of ESB. Starting at "Lando's Palace" to the end of the disc is a musical journey that I can't help but fall into every time I hear it. "The Clash of Lightsabers" has some of the coolest parts in it.

I rather like some of the modulations in Across The Stars. Of course, the whole body of work is absolutely superb.

I really like the march at the beginning of ROTS: I find it fascinating how Williams militarised the Skywalker theme.

EDIT: Plus, whenever I hear it, I always think of the Venator, and that is one sexy ship.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

That was a good bit, although I think it was quite a bit better in the actual film than in the soundtrack. The ROTS soundtrack, in my opinion, rather heavily butchered the cinematic score, and several of the best parts of the ROTS score, such as Yoda's departure from Kashyyk, were absent. Also, I agree on the Venator's aesthetics-I would love to see some run-down, aged Venators in the OT-era in future EU iterations.

The music fits the battle extremely well; I can't think of any better way to set capital ships slugging at each other to music. Of course, I'm not musically well-informed, so my thoughts don't count for much.

I was surprised at the difference between the "pure" and movie versions of Battle of the Heroes (both were included on the soundtrack, IIRC), and I find that I actually prefer the cinematic version better. However, I wish they'd included the lead up to the duel in the soundtrack as well -- there's one particularly awesome point where the music almost perfectly mirrors the inflection in Anakin's voice, and every time I hear it, it gives me chills.

Oh, hell yes -- I would do that ship from the back, from the bottom, from the ... err, yeah, that'd be great. It wouldn't need to be run-down, even; just to show that the design has viability, and to reinforce the fact the Star Wars universe is, in fact, technologically stagnant, all you'd need are several gray-painted Venators, in perfect condition, serving with the fleet. The time scale's not all that different from Nimitz carriers serving in the US navy currently, actually.

I've been hunting for the film version that opening scene's music.

There is supposedly a fan-made soundtrack floating around that reconstructed the music into how it was on the film.

My favorite would be the Imperial March, specifically the que from the beginning of ROTJ, after Vader says "I hope so, Commander, for your sake. The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am." It's also the que used when Imperial capital ships arrive in the current sector in X-Wing Alliance. I have it set as my start-up sound. :D
