Jacen is pretty effing dense. This is what, the second time he's had a "vision of galactic doom that only he can stop?" Didn't we go through that in the Dark Nest? So now he feels that to save everyone he has to become a Sith? Trained by Lumiya? I mean come on! he even has to kill a Jedi as part of the process? Reemmber Mace Windu? And to be manipualted by Lumiya of all people makes Anakin look sophisticated and canny by comparison! And did I mention the implication of that Evil Sith Ghost Guy probably controlling things?
Jacen is extremely arrogant and sure of his abilities, but he's not a whole lot like Anakin otherwise. I mean, yes, you could draw paralells between him killing Nelani and Anakin killing Mace, and so on, but if you're going superficial like that Ulic, Exar, and company all fit the same mold.
Anakin becomes a Sith out of a pathological fear of those he cares for dying; Jacen does out of a unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Anakin kills Mace because he was about to kill Palpatine-- it was a split-second decision borne of pure panic. Jacen kills Nelani because he's overly confident in his visions. Anakin becomes a Sith and immediately turns on those he loves; Jacen still cares about his family and so on.
I'm not saying Jacen is right or not a bit gullible, not by a long shot-- but his situation and Anakins are hardly comparable.

The more I learn about this, the less I like it. I've never been into comics, but storywise...
*A resurgent Sith-order despite the fact that the Sith was exterminated in ROTJ?
*The Empire which was defeated and reduced to a tiny leftover has defeated and conqured the GA after the Sith-Imperial War?
* A secessionist movement brought on by the sabotage of worlds restored by Yuuzhan Vong technology?
* A Moff council?
* A Pellaeon-class Star Dreadnought?
* Who came up with the names? "Kol" and "Cade" Skywalker? Emperor "Roan Fel"? Darth "Krayt"? Did he have wings and did he fly around Tatooine or what?
I'm sorry, but this sounds like a bad fanfic to me and it obliterates everything that was accomplished in the original movies and beyond and that only a hundred years after the NJO. Man, Luke and the rest must've screwed up pretty badly.

It seems to me that they only reason they are dusting off the Empire again is because the Empire was cool. However, chances are the Old Republic was alot like the Empire already by the time that Palpatine formally made it one and stopped playing lip service to democracy. After all, governments that have existed for stupidly long periods of time like 25,000 years don't dramatically change in the span of the StarWars movies. No matter how slick Palpatine was, no single individual can really effect the social interia of an entire galactic government unless it was pretty damn ready to change already. It's not that unreasonable that the New Republic's attempt to restore the supposed ideals of the Old Republic would fail, post-Empire. After all, by the very necessity of the Empire's existance after that long of a continuous government, the galaxy itself must have been really ready for a dictatorship and alot more used to it than republican ideals. Relapsing into the Empire again, so long as Palpatine doesn't show up, doesn't bother me in the least.

I've heard that Betrayal is pretty good. However, I'll pass on it for now because of the person who has written the second (and the fifth and the eighth) novel in the series. Perhaps I'll change my mind eventually.000 wrote:Read Betrayal-- it'll cure your pessimism right up.
Legacy is looking to me better with each new thing I learn about it. I'll reserve judgement, positive or negative, until I read an issue or two, but I'm actually liking the idea so far.
Naturally, Wookiepedia's on the job and have gathered an index of entries so far:

I'm warming up to the Pellaeon-class, it's got some Vengeance-reminicent attributes. The forward-sloping hull also makes more sense, gun-wise, than the older classes.

Technically the GalacticRepublic of the PT is "only" thousand years old. Before that there were another thousand years of war against the Sith.
Pellaeon-Class, now is this a KDY-vessel or not? And do they call it a Star Dreadnought or still kling to the SuperStarDestroyer-BS?

The optimist thinks, that we live in the best of all possible worlds and the pessimist is afraid, that this is true.
