TA Spring... of DOOM!
So, I've recently downloaded TA Spring's new version
http://taspring.clan-sy.com/
It's pretty good. They've finished every bit of old TA remake, but better. The only thing messed up is Gatling Artillery's high angle fire is a little odd, but you'd never really build those for the high angle anyway.
I've played a few games with a friend. Does anyone else play or would like to play?

Thirdfain, InnocentBystander, and I all played quite a bit a few weeks ago. It's cooled a bit, but I'm sure Innocent would be willing to set up more games.

I've yet to play a round of FF Properly. Me and Covenant were goofing off with first person manual controls, dogfighting for a bit.. but never really playing.
I do dig AA though.
If we play, we've GOTTA use that Supreme Commander map. It was great last time I fought Covie on that map. Incidentally, as our infantry and tanks rushed at each other, the area blew up in nuclear fire right at the center before the Krogoth showed.

That's their style. Core has a LOT of well armored units, but Arm has more flexible units, or all-rounders. Take a look at a few examples.InnocentBystander wrote:In the regular game; has anyone noticed that Core has a lot of... really powerful vehicles and kbots, compared to ARM. Like.. that one tank with more HP than a battleship; for instance...?
- Peewee > AK. It just is. Better, period.
- Arm Aircraft are faster, stronger for the most part. Arm Brawlers also kick the crap out of Core Rapiers, for the gunships.
- Arm Annhiliator fires a single long range, high power beam. Compare this to the wacky Core Doomsday Machine, which has half the range, and a huge setup time. And six silly tiny guns.
- Arm Zeus and Fido are versatile, general all-round attack KBots. Core gets the Can, which is a waddling block of salvage.
- Arm Battleship has nothing but cannons, like a battleship should for shelling. Core's BB has an awkward Heavy Laser on it.

ARM is mobility, and simplicity. Their units are more uniformly armed and have less odd quirks for the most part. Their K-Bots are better than Core's, while Core has stronger vehicles. Arm's airplanes are plain better than Core's, but Core's ships are stronger than Arm's mostly.InnocentBystander wrote:So, as i thought, ARM is mobility...
Generally, Arm has longer ranged weapons. Generally, Core has slower, more armored stuff.
Also, many more of the Core's units require energy to fire their weapons. The Can, K-Bot Sumo, their Battleship, and a few others.
I’ve actually contributed a bit with some of the debugging for the scripts in Starwars TA, and Starwars Spring.

Starwars TA, and Starwars Spring are the same basic mod but for the 2 seperate engines.InnocentBystander wrote:There are 2 star wars TA mods..?

Core has a lot of very extreme units. The Can is a big, heavy unit with an absolutely assload of hitpoints, a real bear for any Arm K-Bot to take down. Costs a lot of metal though. The Sumo is even worse--costing as much metal as some large structures, it's basically barely mobile and utterly impossible to stop. It can withstand a Commander's explosion, and it makes a great first-line unit if you can get it anywhere near the front lines. It's beam is powerful and has a quick refire, making it perfect for stomping anything.Nephtys wrote:ARM is mobility, and simplicity. Their tanks are similar. The Goliath is just gigantic, and has a really impressive cannon on it, but fires so slow that it 's no good as an attacker. They really lack firepower a great deal, but I have to say I am very happy with the Core's laser Hovercraft. Excellent firepower, good speed, moderate durability.
Arm is easier. Core is a bit more difficult since it requires an awful lot of metal to make any of their decent units, which are all heavies, and none of them are much good at anything other than breaking sieges. That's lovely for smashing bases, but goddamn, you'll never intercept a freaking thing the Arm sends at you.
As for artillery, you misunderstand her. She doesn't mean vehicle artillery. She means base fortification artillery, which in TA can fire several miles, and she likes to use that in lieu of units. Very frustrating in a 1v1 match where base defenses more or less can take out 100 times their cost in units!
ARM as well. The Penetrator - mobile Annihilator cannon - is one of my favourites.Covenant wrote:Core has a lot of very extreme units.
Play the Cold Place, and build nothing but Sumos... pretend they're AT-AT's off to crush the rebel scum. The Can is a big, heavy unit with an absolutely assload of hitpoints, a real bear for any Arm K-Bot to take down. As far as Tanks go, I love the ARM Panther. Lightning gun with an AA missile. You can't really expect to use it in sieges though, it's really a skirmisher.
I disagree. The lack of those heavy assault units are felt when you invade bases. ARM units tend to die fairly quickly. At least a Sumo may well live long enough to break through the defences, and then you can send the flood of cheaper lvl 1s in.Arm is easier.
Well, the Arm's lack of high-defense units is made up for by the fact that the rest of their stuff is mostly better. It's easier to break an Arm base with Core units than vice versa, but it's really frustrating for me to try to mount an offensive only to have my big heavy basebuster units get chewed apart by a variety of Arm units before I even get there. The mobilty, versatility, and general offensive superiority of Arm gives it the chance to pick and choose fights and control a vaster proportion of the board than Core can! I'm not saying Arm is better, I'm saying they're easier. It's harder to wrangle the slow, clunky Core units into combat. Once you do, though, they shine.
ARM is better in certain areas: the Annihilator is an awesome defensive unit. If you can build a few of them and have the radar tracking centre built, your adversary will find it difficult to penetrate your base defensive line unless you resort to LRPC artillery.Covenant wrote:Well, the Arm's lack of high-defense units is made up for by the fact that the rest of their stuff is mostly better. The Core have a few good things with their lvl 2 KBOTs, mainly the ballistic rocket and artillery KBOTs. Neither of which ARM has. ARM has Skirmishers like the Fido or the Maverick, who can't really excel in a battlefield rapidly turning into a wreckage filled wasteland.
