Computer Woes.. Part 2.

Post by SirNitram »

Wonderful. Tev's computer will show the little light indicating hard drive activity, without the power light on. No response from mouse.

Hard reset? When plugged back in, the power light doesn't come on, the hard drive light does come on. No sign of life.

Any ideas what's happened? Or has the abused old box finally died?

Supid question 1.

Is the little bundle of wires from your front to your motherboard all connected all the way(IE the LED wire, the Reset Button wires, should all be bottom left of the motherboard)

Stupid Question 2
Is the Power supply fan on and running and are you getting general indications of good power to your system?

Stupid 3
Smell anything burning or see any discoleration on the motherboard or CPU?

Yes.

The power supply and CPU fan spin up when plugged in. Nothing else happens.
Stupid 3
Smell anything burning or see any discoleration on the motherboard or CPU?
Possible smell. It smells hot more than burnt.....

*One hasty bit of cyber-surgery later* COrrect. It was the power supply.

It has failed us for the last time.

Now I know why we kept the old computer box around! I was going to trash it this past Monday, but didn't get Nit to take it out to the curb!

Now I remember. We had replaced the power supply once before. THat was dead too. And now it's burnt on the inside.

Okay. Now I just need a new 250-watt power supply and we're golden!

LadyTev's power supply crapped out.

The found a power supply from a old comp they were about to throw away.

They replaced the power supple in the current comp with the old one.

Tev's power supply crapped out again.

They now need anew 250W power supply to get her comp back up and running.
