Yeah, they are frustratingly uninterested in making the packages easy to download and install. I don't have problems, but it's not something a casual gamer can just step into.

As I said, the pack I linked to works for 95% of users, it should be enough to get you started. It includes FS2, FS1, ST, Derelict and something else, forgot what. It's when you have issues that it gets complicated.

Yeah, but ShivanSpS had to break it into bits, and it needs patches as he hasn't repacked the newest version. Still sub-optimal, in my opinion. :)

What bits? It's a single torrent file and a patch. Which I still can't DL since the site is stupid.

They buried the link in the Google ad. I guess that's one way to make money. And then they make you wait 30 seconds.

Thanks for putting that mini-guide together.

Now that we've hijacked the shit out of this thread, should it be split?

Edit: The patch is also the slowest download I've had in a LONG time.

Edit 2: I take that back - the torrent is the slowest I've had in a long time - 3 days?!?!

I have 8 days. Stop whining you people with 6Mbit internets.

I live with a 2.5Mbit connection(that acts like a 1.5) bottlenecked by a single trunk shared by every single ISP in the country.

Pity me!

And now getting the file DLed.

EDIT: If anyone is interested, I'll hunt down Karajoma's FAQ about installing it, or make my own.

Hmmm...perhaps not so much the level, but the moment in the Slaughterhouse from Beyond Good and Evil just after you photograph a piece of evidence, because this truely awsome piece of music plays in the backround.

And the last level of ECO. It really reflects the sense of being alone after spending most of the game with Yorda and running away from Shadows and all that.

Level 14 of Jedi Starfighter. Mainly because you get to smite things with a orbital defense cannon.

Freespace 2 sounds like my kind of game, how old is it? Will it work on XP? If not, I'm building a retro system for 98, so its not too much of a problem.

It's from '99 and works fine in XP - at least it did for me.

Freespace 2 used to have issues with XP, however with the release of the source code and the resulting Source Code Project, all those issues have been resolved.

The cathedral in Ninja Gaiden, and especially the battle with Alma.

The level looks awesome (particularly the stained glass windows after sunrise), and Alma is the best boss I've ever fought in any game.
"Death before dishonour" they say, but how much dishonour are we talking about exactly? I mean, I can handle a lot. I could fellate a smurf if the alternative was death.

Er, you don't fight her, you only blast at her ghosts/spirits with a pistol :?:

What, precisely, are you on?

He's talking about Ninja Gaiden. No pistols, no spirits, just you and the purple bitch. Alma is the first properly hard boss in NG, and the one at which many people give up, finding their weak gaming powers are simply not up to the task of fighting her.

This is Death, any excuse for a +1.

Personally I've always been fond of the speeder bike level in Jedi Accademy. I must have replayed that mission a million times. speeding along and swiping people with a lightsaber is fun
