Was Sullust in Rogue Squadron incredibly hard for anyone else? I mean, it took me an average of forty seconds for the heat-seeking missile turrets to kill me.
That's the volcano with the giant floating generator thing, right ?

I would've loved to see the planning for that mission

"So we gots to blow up a few weak shield generators, then attack a giant floating doodad. The vulnerable bits of the thingumajig are out of reach for bombs, there's dozens and dozens of turbolasers and anti-fighter missiles swarming about, not to mention a whole squadron of TIE/Interceptors.

Best send in the slow Y-wings. And don't bother with an escort of any kind"

I've never been able to beat that mission with the Y-wing without using cheats. The TIEs weren't so bad, but the Y-wing sucks against missiles.

Huh? Trinity is supposed to be destroyed there. You don't fail the mission when it gets creamed, hell, the debriefing says "there was nothing you could've done to save the Trinity".

Engaging the Sathanas was somewhat annoying though. The fighters that claim to be going for the forward flak batteries to clear way for my bomber wing don't actually do shit, and my wingmen's idea of taking out it's main cannons is to shoot a few torps at the ship's hull plating. Great teamwork :P.
Oh, I'm aware, but you CAN save it. And that makes the completist in me WANT TO.

In case it hasn't been mentioned yet, Hitman: Blood Money - New Orleans. Great concept, but the technology isn't up to task. I finally gave up after the sixth or seventh try when I was shot to pieces by a police officer for trying to enter a bar without a costume on and leaving when told I needed a costume. Plus the police just jack your briefcases if you let them out of your sight for more than a second, and help the illegally-armed assassins whom you are trying to stop kill you dead if, god forbid, you are found doing something odd around their hideout.

EDIT: I think I'll just re-do the mission. With my SOPMOD M4A1. How 'bout them apples.

Yeah, the New Orleans level sucks. I was forced to sneak into a bar because the cop told me I needed a costume when I was already wearing one, among the other problems I mentioned earlier in this thread.

It was hard, but if you survive the first minute or two it gets better. There are only a few heat-seaking missile turrets, and if you take them out soon enough you can shrug off the shots that hit.

But the one mission that I truly hate, besides Escape from Fest, was the attack on Thyferra, where you have to defend the Bacta tanks. Unless you did it in the exact order in the exact time limit, the bombers blow them up. I mean, god damn, I'm a fucking X-Wing, I can't be in three places at once!

Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

Workarounds I've found:

Stash briefcases on a balcony in the internal blocks.

Wear the waiters outfit. Gets you into an out of any bar.

No way. I actually liked Thyferra, but I hate, hate, hate Gerrard V. You need to defend the Y-Wings, which are in three different places, while still fighting off the Interceptors somewhere else. Couldn't they just stick you in the Y-Wing?

I'm afraid I have to say, I pwnd soo very, very badly at Rogue Squadron, mostly because it was pretty much the only game I played for about a year, and I still played it for about 2 years after that (bear in mind I think I was about 10 at the time). I couldn't get the hang of the AT-AT trip at first, and so I got stumped on 'Defection at Corellia' for about 3 months before I finally figured out how to pilot from the weird-ass view. There were a lot of annoying bits in that game, but I just kept going back at them over and over until I got the hang of it. Eventually I completed the game, and then I went back and tried to get gold achievement on every level, which unlocks the secret missions, including the trench run which is actually quite fun, and Hoth. I only ever managed to get gold on every mission except Hoth, which I got silver on, because the computer died while I was still playing it, so I lost everything. Which resulted in me breaking things...

Gerrard V is about as challenging as changing your socks once you figure out you only need to destroy a few strategic weapon systems (either the TL's or the missile racks, can't remember which) rather then blast the whole lot. You can fly that mission in a goddamn V-wing and win every time.

That was RS's problem; balance. Missions weren't hard because you had smart enemies, they were hard because you only got partial briefings and braindead wingmen.

Ah. Well, I last played the game a good 5 years ago, and I still thought GameWinners was the coolest thing at the time.

Also, you'd be surprised how hard it is to change socks, so my statement stands.
