Let's define "Talifans" in terms of these boards and blogs, starting with some of what they are not, and then, what they are:

What a Talifan is Not...

~ A Talifan is not someone who simply disagrees with an idea.

~ A Talifan is not someone who offers negative criticism of a book, movie or game.

~ A Talifan is not someone with a suggestion on how things might work differently.

~ A Talifan is not someone who wants to see better products from Lucasfilm and expresses disappointment.

~ A Talifan is not someone who questions the status quo.

~ A Talifan is not someone who adheres to the Terms of Use, and has a reasonable understanding of Internet etiquette while offering their views.


What a Talifan is...

~ A troll. One of the worst kind.

~ Sometimes, something worse.

I guess I'm going to dive straight into "trollhood" by offering a personal attack: Dark Moose, you are a lying sack of shit. This dishonest debate tactic wherein you associate those who disagree with you with stalkers is one of the most chickenshit things I've ever seen.

I mean, frankly, it's the Internet. We have a couple of parody videos and some frustrated posts out there, that's it, and on the other hand, Traviss' whining has gotten a lot of good people banned from sites they enjoyed merely for disagreeing. All this because a tough, hard-bitten military reporter's little feelings are hurt?

The longer this goes on, the less respect I have for the principals in this fiasco. I can confidently say that I will never buy a Traviss book, nor will I ever open up a Hyperspace account, because of the unprofessional conduct of her and TOS staff.

And I'll be honest, I wasn't a big fan of "Talifan," and I haven't gotten round to watching this new one yet, but there are far worse things on YouTube.

I find it very strange that the Dark Moose shows up at almost every single forum, blog comments page etc. where either "talifans" (I hate that word with a passion) or KT is being discussed, so the person who "attack on the same point over and over and over" etc. is none other than himself.

Also, I think it's extremely low to talk about someone who isn't in a position to defend himself. And he is moderator at the Official Forums... that's just weird.

He cannot hold his own in an intellectual debate, and he knows it, so he substitutes polite put-downs and a holier-than-thou, dismissive attitude (often appealing to the motives of people he doesn't like to portray them badly). Sure. Carbon-copy the emails to, say, a half-dozen different people on both-sides of the debate, and, ideally, some disinterested observers who could hold onto them for the duration of the debate. Also, cross-post the emails to the various message boards.

Or, pick a neutral message board where neither side can edit his posts and say and take up the debate there. Those are just a few ideas; the editing problem is not insurmountable.

Incidentally, I disagree with your self-serving presumption that the purpose of debate is to come to consensus; it's actually to find the truth.
