So exactly how advanced is azzarn civilization technologically? If they're so magically advanced, then it follows that they must have an extensive knowledge of biology, chemistry and physics... and yet we don't get much of an idea as to the breadth of their applied science beyond magic. There doesn't seem to be any electricity, gunpowder or advanced machinery.

Maybe they're weak mathematically? Syvorian currency seems rather bizarre, and a mathematical weakness would explain engineering delinquencies with millenia under a very scientifically-minded people. As for guns, maybe magic already fills the role of the powerful ranged weapon and firearms are simply unnecessary. I'd also bet that civilization was far more advanced in ages past. I have nothing to back this up other than my assumption that allignment-defined traits are unnatural.

Bah, sorry about that. I was going to ask Umber if he ever reads fiction and if so what kind of stories he likes. ^_^

Doubtful in the extreme. Maybe magic could replace the need for artillery, but it doesn't seem common enough to replace guns.

Huh? It seems very common. Well, destructive magic does, at least. Remember the Llanlleian grunts? They were throwing around spells in between their melee attacks. Surely only real wizards and other magic specialists can use the big spells, but the fact that common foot soldiers also use it suggest that DCverse's magic has a more shallow learning curve than some other worlds (either that or they use it via enchanted artifacts).

Besides, in all that time surely someone thought of using an explosive to fire a projectile through a tube.

How oddly appealing that a world embroiled in savage and seemingly endless warfare can be so perfect and heavenly otherwise. Speaking of which, does your planet have a name yet? I don't like calling it "DCverse" because it makes me think of retarded crap like Superman.

Is the rest of the DC world, beyond the landmass occupied by Llanellia and Syvoria, and the mountains that cap them to the North, ocean? Have any azzarn attempted to cross the waters seen in your earlier map?

Sounds like Krynn to me. Which I find hillarious, since Krynn pre-4th age was the most 4-color Good vs. Evil clear-cut morality-lines-drawn fantasy ever.

How about Mielakora?

Too many syllables. Names should be monosyllabic or bisyllabic, often the latter. Look at actual cultures that have names for important things like where they are. Like the two classical languages
Latin: Latium/Italia
Greece: Hellas

I like Krym more. Honestly it's not noticable to anyone except someone who reads Dragonlance and even then I took it as a concious obscure reference.

But they got many words from the Zaa, who do.

So what would the Zaa know their world as, really?

And I still like Krym. It is short, simple, and sounds like a real place. (Probably because The Krim is another name for Crimea/Southern Ukraine, although I think it is archaeic and refers to a slightly different, more westerly spot).

Well it does refer to a certain bovine food animal.

Sounds nice. I get sort of easter vibes from it, since AO=OW is a sort of chinese type of sound. Us dirty anglophones would have said Kow or maybe even used a C given the sound.

Well I'm willing to bet Fvier is wrong in my head: Is it F-Veer? Fiver? Five-Ee-Er?

And it is Hai-Rahl and Hokker for Hyral and Hoquer, right?

Caia would be K+eye-ah and not Kay-ah, right?

Just do what Robert Jordan did. Make a recording of yourself pronouncing all the names/words you created, and then refuse to speak with anyone who mispronounces them.
