Half Life 2 mods help?

Post by Lazarus »

I've seen a few good mods out lately for Half Life 2, but when I've downloaded them I'm lost for what to do next...
I've installed the two I want into the Source Mods folder, but all I have is files, so what am I supposed to do with them? I know it's probably really simple and I'm an idiot for not seeing whatever it is that I need to do, but I want to play The Island more than I value my mad-computer-skillz rep...
I installed and played Substance fine, but that seems to be different, because it didn't install into the sourcemods folder. Any help?

Restart steam, they'll be listed in the games list.

If you're looking for Half-Life 2 mods, you'll have to play Minerva: Metastasis, which is unanimously agreed upon as the most polished and well-designed single-player release yet. It's being delivered in episodic style, with the first two releases bundled together in a convenient self-installing executable.

Go play it. Now. :P

I'll have a look, thanks guys.
The Island was really something of a disappointment, considering the quality of Substance, which sort of set the benchmark. Antlion Troopers Deuce, on the other, hand, it brilliant fun, and could only be better if they changed the skins somewhat to make it even more Starahip Troopers-esque. Can you get new skins for HL2 which will work in the mod? Maybe from CS Bannana or something?

I've managed to get up off my lazy ass and have a look for myself, and I've found an MP5 EOD skin which should do fine I suppose, but now I've got the files I'm not sure where to put them, I know what to do with CS skins but now I'm kinda lost...any help?

Extract them into your Steam/SteamApps/(Steam Account Name)/half-life 2/ folder, with paths enabled.

but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

Has anyone tried Quartz's Pilotable Strider Mod? I've got the single-player (v0.2.75) and multi-player (v0.3.1) versions and can't find anyone online to play the latter, sadly. Really quite fun too, especially as you can have people in the Gunship or APC or even the Antlion King.
