Rant: Being Responsible SUCKS

Post by Lord Poe »

I'm working 7 straight days this week, because the FUCKS I work with can't seem to make it in to work. Especially on (non-payday) Friday.

"My kid has a cold! I cant come in!"

So, what, you gonna stand over his bed and watch snot drip out of his nose? It fucking AMAZES me that suddenly NONE of these people have not one family member, not one boyfriend or girlfriend, who can look after their kids. Especially on (non-payday) Friday.

I'm having car problems! I can't make my shift (which started 20 minutes ago)

So there's NO ONE, not one family member, not one boyfriend or girlfriend, that can give you a ride? Public transportation is non existant where you live?

Some days despite the higher pay, I wish I WASN'T "in charge". When I was just a regular douche in this dead-end job, at least I only had to worry about getting ONE ass into work: MINE.

Yes that does very much suck.

I know what you mean. I'm not in charge but I've only missed a half day of work or school since the fall of 1986 because of illness. Other than that I missed a weak last year to go to my granfather's funeral.

Where I currently work plenty of people call in because they don't want to work the weekends (lots of students). What's worse is that our schedule is set up with an on-call person just because so many people call in sick on the weekends. This year the management wised up a little and made it so the people who call in get added to the oncall rotation more often than everyone else.

One catch on the on-call thing. The on-call person does not work graveyards, which is what I work. So, whenever my compadre calls in sick I usually get to work by myself (2xWork) for maybe 1/2 hour of overtime otherwise the pay is the same. Happened to me last Friday night. Saturday they got someone to fill in but since since he isn't a regular on the shift he was bordering on being a nusiance but ended up being okay.

I've seen people like those. Whenever there's something that's "not madatory, but reccomended", they all back out, leaving the entire job up to a few people. Sometimes, this happens with things like rehearsals, as I've experienced. Whenever it isn't madatory, then you shouldn't go.

Work sucks. In the newspaper industry, the Holidays are notoriously shitty. Literally half of my staff is on vacation, and I'm one of only two editors left in a paper that normally has seven! Add to that the fact that we're expected to make holiday papers bigger than normal, and we're talking twelve to sixteen hour days six or seven days a week!

I used to be an asst. manager at a temporary staffing agency, and my favorite were the people that called in to say they couldn't make it work because their car wasn't working, but they'd be by later to pick up their paychecks...

Ah, the joys of being short staffed and having to put up with idiots who got jobs but didn't want to work them. Never did understand that.

*sigh* I can relate to you all, I have the joy of working in the dairy dept. of my local Super Wal-Mart.
Our dept chief, is a lazy fucktard who never works weekends and has let our automated inventory run so far amok that were are literally buried in some items , but are chronically out on other popular items......
Also, if you want to quickly lose any form of holiday cheer, come work retail , we'll beat it right out of you in a single evening. Don't get me wrong , 80% of our customers havetheir shit together, but thoes other 20%, will make you weep with their stupidity.

Yup, the joys of dealing with bonehead customers, there's always, Always a couple of them every day that completely ruin the day for you. I'm lucky actually, the bicycle retail business is completely dead once it starts getting cold so I never have to deal with the Christmas holiday madness.

Ah the military, don't show up to work = court marshall.

You say you're sick, you go see the medical group to get checked out that day. Lying about health = court marshall.

You say your car broke, well if you live on base you better walk or call the transportation squadron. Either way, you may be late, but if you don't show up = court marshall.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Ahhh, the military. 8) I remember when all the jokes about the government and the miltary had me convinced that civillian organizations must be run better. WRONG!!! I wish. I really miss a lot of the discipline that military had. Even the little things like fines, docking a half months' pay (but you still worked), restriction, extra duty, the Brig, three days bread and water  . At least the military knew how to deal with lazyassed incompetant motherfuckers when it had to.

Thats because military personel have an actual work ethic. Try making some lazy bum doing what they do, and they'll quit. And people wonder why so many foreigners think all americans are lazy fucks....
