I do think it will eventually come out, though it won't be finished, heh. I think it'll be cool, though obviously not as amazing as this buildup would require it to be, and will probably not stand out that much against contemporaries.

Duke3d was a beautiful game, though, I built such an amazing level for it, it was great once you learned how to use Build. The doom games were the ones it was compared to back in the day, it had clear advantages over doom in the sheer interactivity involved in each level. Destructible walls, multiple gibs, the ability to jump, look up and down, use a jetpack, holoduke, tripmines, extravagant sequential explosives, security camera consoles, breakable TVs, shrinky and freeze rays, decals where you shot the wall, pipebombs... tons of innovation.

I remember playing doom after duke3d and thinking "there's pinkies in that pit there, I wish I had a pipebomb".

Assuming it's even real.
dude, you need to run a Chkdsk on your mental facilities. I still have Duke3d and i still love it. Its a helluva lot of fun. Duke Nukem's taunts, bad language and sophmoric behavior made the game a top notch in my book. Also with the cool weapons and the funny ass aliens.
Bah, saw both the original and 3D: nothing special IMHO. The jokes made it fun, but it was by no means topnotch in technical terms. I eventually went back to id's stuff due to its superior quality.

Ahem, perspective.

Anyone curious as to whether they'll start all over again soon with the latest Unreal engine, or whatever Valve makes for HL3? They've been trying to keep up with technology (which is folly with computers) for years, and all it's gotten them is rewrite after rewrite. Hilarious though.

I wonder just how many rewrites DNF has had.
If they have them all archived.. it could be a new marketing angle!

except this item:
Daikatana began development 10 days before Duke Nukem Forever- Unfortunately no one was made John Romero's bitch when it hit retail shelves on May 23rd, 2000.
he forgot poor Stevie Case, who still is Romero's "Bitch"

Er, last I heard, Stevie Case and John Romero had broken up, and Romero was last seen courting some 18 or 19 year old from Eastern Europe.

The original Duke Nukem engine spawned a far better game though. Blood.

Do people really think there are expectations? There's no marketing, no presence, no public release dates, etc. Who expects shit? Spore has expectations, but Forever has been pretty quiet. Casual gamers perhaps don't even know it EXISTS.

The story I heard was that they never really had a full team working on it at the time so development was too slow. Apparently this is no longer the case.

Supposedly the engine is so modified it's virtually a new one. I'd be happy with it being maybe a level (or two) behind the latest FPS games if only it compares like DN3D did to Quake (which was the main comparison of the time, as I remember it. Even if Quake came out after), namely being a more fun, interactive and interesting single player experience.

Quake seemed much less interesting (for all the polygon monsters made me giggle with glee) when I played it, because I'd played DN3D first.

Personally, I still think DNF will be a good game, nothing spectaculer, but I think it'll be a fun game.

Not to mention Shadow Warriors and the rather funny, partly in due to the parody country music, Redneck Rampage. :)

To be truthfull, at the time, Quake was the primary competor to Duke3d; and I actually did like Duke over it; Quake tried too much to be cutting edge; while duke was shear fun. I loved the Shrink Ray, MUAHHAHAH
