Re: Imperial Guard vs Imperial Stormtroopers
IG get Titans? Geez, I would have been happy with just the superheavy tanks, myself. You could make an interesting Epic/40K campaign if you gave the SW Imperials some sort of stats, but for the sake of the debate, I'd have to initially say the Imperial Guard.Swordsman wrote:Imperial Guard from Warhammer 40K and your standard SW Stormtroopers. With Titans, superheavy tanks, the normal array of "standard" tanks, artillery support, and special forces, and no orbital support from either side, the Imperium seems to have the advantage. AT-ATs seem comperable to smaller to medium Titans, and AT-STs seem like shooty dreadnaughts with higher speed and less protection.

here we encounter a problem...Titans can literally run rings around Empire heavy armour..Titans vs AT-AT,
And since technically the Adeptus Titanicus are seperate from the Imperial Guard, they shouldnt be included.
Superheavys, Ordinatus and Capitol Imperialis are the largest things the Guard should have to make this even halfway fair.
Really ?AT-ATs seem comperable to smaller to medium Titans
Possibly in firepower ...but only if these are those upgraded AT-Ats with heavier guns...otherwise even a Warhound is going to smash em into scrap/
Equivalent size Titans are very ikely faster and more agile..I mean, whats the max speed of an AT-At ?
AT-STs seem like shooty dreadnaughts with higher speed and less
Vastly inferior firepower though, replace the AT-STs in ROTJ with Dreadnaughts and that forest area would have been reduced to a blackened smear

I was referrring more to function than size and perhaps rough firepower estimates. Titans also get all sorts of nice little shields which AT-ATs don't have, amongst other things. I'm not going to even try to derive numbers from 40K if I can help it. I usually just smile and nod when people give out firepower calcs. I can roughly guesstimate it, but I usually just deal with what hard numbers I have in 40K, which are all but useless in a debate including anything not detailed in 40K.white_rabbit wrote:Really ?AT-ATs seem comperable to smaller to medium Titans

Only if you include 2nd Ed "deforestation" rounds.Vastly inferior firepower though, replace the AT-STs in ROTJ with Dreadnaughts and that forest area would have been reduced to a blackened smearAT-STs seem like shooty dreadnaughts with higher speed and less
The dreadnaughts have a very nice advantage in that their center of gravity is much, much lower than the AT-ST, though how they move around on those stubby little blocks they call legs I'll never figure out.
I suppose then, that we can just call AT-STs overgrown Sentinels?

IIRC mk 2 AT-Ats have shields also..I was referrring more to function than size and perhaps rough firepower estimates. but we have speed estimates etc for titans, as well as evidence of their agility from several books.
its easily superior to AT-ATs
You think so ?Only if you include 2nd Ed "deforestation" rounds
I mean compare a Multimelta or a Lascannon to the shit guns AT-STs have...now tell me that they wouldnt lay waste to a forest just by being in one. hell an assault cannon would do the trick nicely as well...or a stormbolter, heavy flamer etc etc.
I can find at least a few examples of melta guns doing vastly more damage than any AT-ST weapons easily.
similarly with Titans and AT-ATs
AT-ATs firing on Hoth made itty-bitty (relitively) pafts of explosions.
Titans solid ammo guns are decribed as blasting "vast steaming craters" "reducing the area to glass and slag"
Example of a Solid ammo weapon for a titan.
Gatling blaster, 155mm gatling cannon firing supersonic HE armourpiercing rounds..
Energy weapons are even more powerful, "destroying population centres" "fragging citys" "atomising 100s of infantry"
etc etc
"atomising 100s of infantry"
is just a weapon overheat!
Plus Titans are armed with nice big melee weapons...gigantic powered monomol blades, energy whips, battle-claws.
titans outclass ATATS and all SW armour...its that simple.

Yes, but void shields != imperial shields. I don't work with titans much though, so my knowledge of the various types of Titan shielding is sorely lacking. I do recall them being a royal pain to take down, however.white_rabbit wrote:IIRC mk 2 AT-Ats have shields also..I was referrring more to function than size and perhaps rough firepower estimates. Not a terribly difficult achievement, I'd imagine, given the range of movement an AT-AT is capable of.but we have speed estimates etc for titans, as well as evidence of their agility from several books.

I was kidding. Hence the emoticon. You think so ?Only if you include 2nd Ed "deforestation" rounds

Haha....
example...Standing up from prone....this was achieved by a Warlord Titan...the largest general deployment Titan IMO
Pushing up from the ground with an arm...either a Warlord or Reaver.
Yeah, AFAIK in the latest version of the rules for Epic Armageddon your weapon needs to be classed as a heavy weapon i.e. Lascanon..not heavy bolter iirc before you can think about taking down void shieldsYes, but void shields != imperial shields. I don't work with titans much though, so my knowledge of the various types of Titan shielding is sorely lacking. I do recall them being a royal pain to take down, however.
plus this isnt a single weapon its a brigade of heavy weapons.
