Accessing a router
A quick and fairly stupid question, does anyone know the IP address needed to connect to a Linksys router? (I lost my manual. )

If you did change it, and can't remember the password, hit the button on the back of the router to reset the memory to default state. Of course, you lose everything on it then, but *shrug*Destructionator XIII wrote:192.168.1.1 on most models. Empty username, password "admin" unless you changed that (which you should have when you set it up!)

Okay, another question: I'm trying to hook up another PC running WinXP to my router. The router light for that particular connection is on, but the connection isn't working on the other PC. When I hooked up the other two computers to the router, no configuration was necessary, I could just hop on the net immediately (one was a WinXP, the other OSX.) Any help here?
Edit: I checked the DHCP list; and it shows 2 sets of IP and MAC addresses. Do I need to tell it to create a new one?

No dice. It was already set to retrieve it automatically, so I entered in the IP and DNS manually. Still didn't work.Destructionator XIII wrote:Make sure the computers you added are using DHCP (go to network connections, properties, and select "automatically get an IP address)

I'm presuming you only have a single network card in your PC?Captain tycho wrote:No dice. It was already set to retrieve it automatically, so I entered in the IP and DNS manually. Run through the setup home networking wizard to ensure all the settings are reverted back to defaults, then reset. Double check the IP settings are DHCP and you don't have any uncesessary protocols installed. Then reboot again and see what happens.
Also make sure you don't have a dud port on the router, try using one of the known good ports.
