What happens when you die?

There's also the fact that as frighteneing as nonexistence may be to many people, the thought of eternal existence is far, far worse. This is especially true if that existence is lived out in heaven: with only a perfect world surrounding you, you very soon realize that you are not needed, and living forever without purpose has to be the most depressing thought of all.
data_link has resigned from the board after proving himself to be a relentless strawman-using asshole in this thread and being too much of a pussy to deal with the inevitable flames. Buh-bye.

Eternal life is worse since you don't do anything You always have purpose, just as everything has a purpose. To have such a shallow take on life after death is depressing.
John 3:16
An eternity in Heaven would in a word be , dull.
Im a believer in reincarnation. I personally think that (and this may seem new agey and kooky, but I find it comforting) that we enter a state of limbo , not Purgatory, but a place outside the realm of the physical being. There we can contemplate what we have learned in this life, and stack it up with our experiences from our previous lives and then when we feel ready we enter into a new life in the physical world, this entry is non-linear as well, so time(temporal location)/place/gender/ethnicity can all change from one life to the next.
I find that prospect far more fun than the live/die and then spend ETERNITY in eiether perfection or torment...............

I thought the Pope said a few years ago that Purgatory didn't exist. *shrug*Howedar wrote:*growl*verilon wrote:What, no Purgatory?Howedar wrote:Heaven or Hell. I have absolutely zero data to back this up. Its just what I believe.
Fine, Purgatory too
Anyway, I don't think anything happens after you die. I don't find that depressing or sad, and it doesn't make me want to curl up with a cuddly make-believe image of heaven. It just is. It's like growing old, I think. I accept the fact that I'll grow old. I can't help it, it'll just happen, so I accpet it gracefully. Same with dying. It's going to happen; logically, there isn't some soft, fuzzy place for my spirit to hang out, so I just accept it. If anything, it makes me enjoy what time I have here more.
*shrug* That's it.

If there is a Hell, I would think you would have to have done some pretty Fucked up shit in your life to gewt there. Now I'm talking Hitler Level shit.

You take the Bible literally <=> Christian Fundie. Tell me, if, to you, other religions are true too, do you also follow the Koran literally? Or is it not of the true ones?ZAROVE wrote: It started all true religions ( as a fundamentalist bigot I only believe christianity is the true religion, despite the fact that I don't believe that)

The only problem is, it kinda loses its meaning when giving an average of ten gramatical mistakes per sentence.SeebianWurm wrote:Zarove is some sort of masochist, it seems. He enjoys beating himself with implied straw men.

"Dyslexia" does not excuse his inability to spell. One need only go to his last post:

TRUTH
In order for somwthign to be true it must be Universally true, therefore Buhdism, Taoim, and Christianity ( the philosophy lets not sidetrack to who did what when, just focus on the book) all basicaly have the same message, with only slightly different emphasis.
I have never read the Qua'ran fully and thus have no opinion.

Re: TRUTH
If religions have the same ideas, that doesn't make them right or true; it just means that everything's been done before. Because other people have come up with similar ideas previously, they must be accurate and therefore worthy of acceptance, right? I don't think so. The general belief that the Earth was flat was commonly accepted for a long time. Since that was accepted as 'universally true,' does that mean it was so? No.ZAROVE wrote:In order for somwthign to be true it must be Universally true, therefore Buhdism, Taoim, and Christianity ( the philosophy lets not sidetrack to who did what when, just focus on the book) all basicaly have the same message, with only slightly different emphasis.

Why is it that logic is so often neglected in the area of religion? I don't get it.

Re: TRUTH
Being true has nothing to do with how many people think it's true. By "universally applicable," we mean you must be able to objectively verify or disprove a claim. It has nothing to do with a universal opinion.ZAROVE wrote:In order for somwthign to be true it must be Universally true, therefore Buhdism, Taoim, and Christianity ( the philosophy lets not sidetrack to who did what when, just focus on the book) all basicaly have the same message, with only slightly different emphasis.

Shit, this stupid fucking country would probably declare a "War on Gravity" if too many people died from falling off buildings in a year. That wouldn't change the fact that gravity pulls.

I have no opinion on what happens after death, there is no evidence for me to base my opinion on. I will find out what happens to me when I die, when I do indeed die. This is, of course, assuming that I am even capable of conscious thought when I die.
No sense in arguing over this....... with the lack of any evidence every theory holds equal weight, that being none at all.

It has to be one of the most fearsome and depressing subjects we can possibly conceive.
I have to admit that I truly hope that there is life after death. I find it unfathomable to think of dying and just totally vanishing into complete non-existence. No memory, no mind, NOTHING. What scares me is the logical possibility that it is true.
I just pray (oops, dirty word ), that there is more to life than we currently understand and that maybe consciousness of some description is somehow preserved.
But I guess without any kind if religious explanation, it seems rather silly doesn't it? This is the rub of it. If you truly reject all forms of religion and believe in materiality as being the complete and total truth of our existence, than we have nothing to suggest there is a REASON for our survival after death.
I don't want to believe that we are simply another animal existing in a completely unguided and un-purposeful universe that is destined to die and simply become nonexistant.
I hope that this isn't the case. I think if I truly believed this that life would be intolerable to me. What would be the point of anything? It's such a horrible train of thought.

You have to realize that most Christian "moral values" behaviour is not really about "protecting" anyone; it's about their desire to send a continual stream of messages of condemnation towards people whose existence offends them. - Darth Wong alias Mike Wong

It seems to me, people like to think something along the lines that appeals to them, not actual reality.Eternity in heaven would not be dull, it's heaven.Reality is what you make it on earth. You have to have the full concept of heaven down plus take into account that you would no longer be in the flesh.
