Considering that Bail Organa and Mon Mothma were conspirering for twenty years, and the duo expected a long build up before challenging the Emperor; I wouldn't be surprised if Alderaan set up front companies that could funnel war material to rebel cells. It could explain both the money to the rebels and the munitions to the rebels. Bail puts money into a corporation, that turns around and puts that same money to off world military contractors to buy or produce weapons and ships, and then delievers it to their 'cliets' who are rebel agents.Publius wrote:Incom Corporation was not the rebel Alliance's chief supplier. In fact, shortly after the Alliance got ahold of the X-wing starfighter, Incom was Imperialized and reorganized under a new, pro-Imperial corporate government (a fact mentioned in numerous sources; Coruscant and the Core Worlds even mentions a commissioned officer being in place as the corporation's minder). The particular details of Alderaan's activities as a weapons supplier are not known, but remember that Tarkin was not necessarily referring to the planet Alderaan only. Alderaan surely had off-world assets and colonies, and certainly had naval and military forces at its disposal (even if they were euphemistically 'self-defense forces' or such like). In any case, Alderaan is known to have provided considerable financial support, even after the planet's obliteration; the Crown Jewels of Alderaan were offered as collateral to a much-needed war loan from the Bank of Aargau in "The Third Law."Galvatron wrote:Monetary source or manufacturing source? Surely Incom wasn't based on Alderaan.Publius wrote:Grand Moff Tarkin called Alderaan the rebellion's chief source of munitions in the novelization of A New Hope.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

.......and back on topic
Read issue 1 of legacy. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but some of the story about how things come along seem kinda silly. There is no real reason given so far why all of a sudden the "new" empire decides to go against the jedi, or why they would team up with the new sith. I guess we gotta see how things develope. Oh, and the new TIE's look pretty nifty.

First reaction: Dear god, what the hell is that crap? Is the artist blind or something?
....
Second reaction: I hope they normally fly with the wings levelled. Damn, is that thing supposed to be an improvement over a regular TIE fighter?

Heavily armed? Where?Wookiepedia wrote:Considered a successor to the older TIE/I starfighter, Predator-class fighters were still highly manouevrable and heavily armed, but unlike most previous TIEs, they were also equipped with hyperdrives, and they generated deflector shields through their blade-shaped wings. As with the earlier Chiss Clawcraft, these wings could adjust to a variety of positions, aiding the starfighter's maneuverability, and they folded back fully for docking mode.

AFAIK, the Defender and the Avenger/Advanced TIE has extra superstructure on the rear of the craft for other equipment and systems where the regular TIE's don't.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:No smaller than the TIE Defender I would think, or the TIE Advanced for that matter.Stark wrote:Those fighters are hyperspace capable? The shield generators are supposedly in the wings.

Damn straight - this design has just a ball and some radiators. It loses the fatass pylons full of pipes, and somehow ADDS capability, even doubling the guns while overall REDUCING radiator area!Knife wrote:AFAIK, the Defender and the Avenger/Advanced TIE has extra superstructure on the rear of the craft for other equipment and systems where the regular TIE's don't.
Quite frankly, if THAT is hyperspace capable, than Jedi fighters NOT being hyperspace capable is stupid. IT'S A BALL. That's it. Defenders/Advanced etc have a rear section, almost the same volume as the ball on some models, containing shields, drives, fuel etc.
PS the shield gens are in the wings... THAT MOVE. That's right, the generators that absorb impacts are attached to a flexible extension. Best idea ever.

Erm... you can't see what's behind can you? Moreover, we don't know the dimensions of the main cockpit nor the wing thickness and what not.Knife wrote:AFAIK, the Defender and the Avenger/Advanced TIE has extra superstructure on the rear of the craft for other equipment and systems where the regular TIE's don't.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:No smaller than the TIE Defender I would think, or the TIE Advanced for that matter.Stark wrote:Those fighters are hyperspace capable? Yes you can.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Erm... you can't see what's behind can you?
Even if you could not it specifically mentions the wings fold all the way back along that little rail-line they are hooked to on the center axis. So, yeah, if there was anything back there they would need to somehow phase into it to fold back like that. As I know of no phasing technology in SW (thank god) we can safely rule that one out, and conclude there is nothing there and they come together like so:
Code: Select all
| /
O -> O -> O=
| \
Unless you have evidence suggesting otherwise, it is a logical assumption to think that the exact same window and ball design remains a 1-person craft of the previously seen size. Especially with the tendancy of the Empire and Remnant to reuse the basic TIE design and the relatively stagnant state of technology. Do you have something we are missing out on?Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Moreover, we don't know the dimensions of the main cockpit
Extrapolated from the cockpit.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:nor the wing thickness and what not.

1. Technological development does not preclude the idea that a eyeball has to stay the same forever.Stark wrote:Because a) SW has no technological development and the TIE is an outgrowth of 40-odd years of starfighter design and b) there were TIEs with far more than 2 guns. The interceptor had eight or ten.
2. Are you refering to the possible guns in the eyeball or the wings? Some of those "guns" were supposedly sensors.
1. So you're saying while it's a ball with TIE-like window, it's acutally a different size? We can't actually show that it isn't, since you can't see the pilot through the window. Eventually the ship will be scalable though, and I bet it's the same size.
2. So you accept the stupid sourcebooks who deliberately rename the gun-structures 'sensors' because they'd already said it only had four? The entry doesn't say anything about the chin guns IIRC - that's the level of quality we're talking about here.

1. That's your bet. I have no bets till someone tells me a definitive answer.Stark wrote:1. So you're saying while it's a ball with TIE-like window, it's acutally a different size? 2. If there's another theory and someone actually counted how many beams a TIE interceptor shoots in one go, then perhaps I will reconsider.
1. Fair enough. Now I'll have to get the damn comic for myself!
2. I simply figure everything on the TIE-I that looks like a gun is a gun. That's two chin, two pair of hub, and four wingtip. Almost the entire EU says only the four wingtip are guns. I'm not aware of anything in ROTJ that shows while gun the blasts come from. In any case, even it it's the bare minimum of six guns, that doesn't help the new one, as it's got guns mounted around the bloody window.
