Swiftfox

Post by Admiral Valdemar »

Who else has toyed with, or fully adapted to this browser? I was wary of any performance increase, but as soon as I started it, every page I loaded was instantaneous. No minor loading time like even my finely tuned Firefox 1.5.0.4, at least, thus far. It also is barely going near 50 megs for memory usage too with several tabs open.

Get Swiftfox.

A word of warning: it is for Linux systems only, so I should've really mentioned that first. I only came across it because of the latest Automatix setup and asking a friend who uses it now who says it blows the crap out of Opera and standard Firefox on his rig. It optimises for your CPU among other things, so I expect 64-bit users will get even more from it. This is essentially what Firefox 3 will become, previous versions were the basis for Firefox 2 which comes out at the end of the year. It loads faster and renders faster too, since I did notice some lag with my previous browser on certain, shall we say, overindulged pages of media.

Don't see much difference between standard Ubuntu FFX and this- I'm on Pentium M though and running the 1.5 version. The optimizations don't do much, despite what some gentoo users will have you believe.

My Pentium 4 HT shows improvements, and I think it's the first Pentium to be mastered by this, so you'll have to wait.

And we all know Gentoo people like that, which is why I'm Ubuntu.
